No.

The Xeon MP line up is for massive server arrays, where up to 4 CPU's can be installed on one motherboard.

Different socket compared to desktop processors and different motherboard/memory requirements.

So why don't they let people buy motherboards with 4 CPU slots and tons of memory slots? Is it just not that efficent to have a computer with that kind of setup?

They're not stopping you.

If you want a motherboard with 4 CPU sockets that only accepts FB-DIMM's, by all means, go ahead. :P

The law of diminishing returns kind of applies here. 4 CPU's is just plain overkill for the desktop market, especially given the high asking price of server grade components.

Heck, even dual CPU socket setups are overkill.
