I know the i5-2500k isnt sub $200 but before you guys start talking smack, it was put in there as a reference. The i5-3550 can be bought at ~200 however

And before others start b!tching about the compiler, Intel developed their own compiler for optimizing their own hardware, that is hardly a compiler scam. Especially since there are several other compilers that are vendor neutral.

Anyway, I know these results aren't with any OCs but they are interesting nonetheless. Discuss

for the most part it just shows both companies are right there in terms of performance.

Seems about right. Metro 2033 and Far Cry 3 uses 3-4 cores to good effect. The other remaining cores are just lightly loaded. I guess that is enough for the 8350 to stay in a similar pace as the Intel chips. On the other hand, Starcraft 2 only uses 2 cores to good effect, and a third for some extra stuff. Anything over that won't be used. So Intel wins there because their cores are faster than AMD's. If next-gen consoles do have AMD 8 core chips, then you will see developers optimize their games for 8 core CPUs. Hopefully by then, Intel would have released a mainstream 8 core CPU.

It depends on what kind of operations those cores are doing. Remember 8350 only has 4 floating point units, just like the i5s and i7s. And it has 8 integer cores. Notice how it beats the i5 when doing integer calculations.

There's no reason to buy an i5-2500k for the $200+ price tag with ivy bridge out. Fortunately for me, I bought the i5-2500k when it was fairly new for $160 + free 2 extended warranty on it @ Fry's. A rare instance where they provided good customer service.

Maybe in the store, but definitely not online, and microcenter isn't a common store, not everyone has access to it.
