So I reformated my computer last night and everything went well. The only problem I am running into is that I cannot connect to the internet anymore. I've tried reinstalling the ethernet drivers for my nvidia nforce 4 chipset and I've tried to install my linksys wireless - g adapter and it does connect to the home wireless network but the internet is unavaliable. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get back on the internet because I cannot actiivate windows until I have some sort of connection to the the internet.

Btw I think I'm using service pack 1 xp and since i can't connect to the internet I  can not update any of the drivers or xp to service pack 2. Would this be one of the issues of why I can not connect to the internet?

I am just very fustrated right now since I was up all night trying to solve this dumb problem so any feedback and help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you using ActiveArmor Firewall?

If so try De-activating it and then connect to internet.

If that doesnt work then try this: Start->Run->Services.msc->ForceWare Inteligent Application Manager (IAM)-> Right Click and De-activate

Then try to connect again. If that Doesnt worke then Contact Nvidia Support for further Help.

I had a similar problem once after I installed the drivers for the NIC , all I did was reset the IP in command line and putting up a static IP and it connected just fine after that

I think you need to shut down your PC, unplug your router, unplug your broadband modem for 10-15 seconds, plug it back in, restart your router, let it run for 60 seconds or until rapidly flashing lights stop, then turn on your PC.

Sometimes the lease needs to be renewed on your various IP addresses when you are putting a new machine on. Also, if that doesn't work, try plugging your broadand modem directly into your PC, you mght see an authorization screen from your ISP, you might not. Once you've enabled internet access directly, you should be able to put the modem back on the router and connect via your wireless router, but you may need to go through the restart sequence described above.

A wireless router connected to a Broadband modem i assume. Anyways, is this a problem that  is local to the formatted PC or is it happening on all your PC/Laptops?

His wireless setup is fine, as he indicates that he can connect ok to the home network. What he can't do is connect to the internet, which I presume he is doing via a broadband modem connected to a wireless router.
