Morning guys , well I just got Call of Duty 4 and installed the game. Went to go play and one of my Virus programs picked this up. They Identified it as "Invader" is this part of the game or while patching the game did I pick this up? I patched the game up Via Gamespot.

Figured I would ask here since a lot of you guys play CoD4. So , before I continue I would like to know if i should terminate this program or not.

I did google " Virus Invader" and all the site say its a Virus so I'm confused on this.

Thanks A lot!

try this: go to ur firewall, n take cod4 out of the "danger" list, if it starts to affect ur perfomance, uninstall the game and try to figure out whats wrong, if it doesnt, dont believe ur antivirus... i dont believe mine, it keeps tellin me my gtr2 patch is a virus, though it still hasnt done anything bad

Update: From the time I posted the original message to right now my Fonts on my displays have changed themselves and the mouse is moving on its own. I think I should terminate the "Invader" program. Could be that the CoD4 instal was just a coincidence when this popped up on intrusion detection.

Invader: This category of malicious program injects its code into the user's address space and then passes the execution flow to the code. This gives it all the same access rights as the user. There are four main subdivisions in the "Invader" category, all of which are detected by the Proactive Defense Module.

I know what I would do, if AV progs couldn't stop it. Save whatever important stuff I could from the infected drive, then wipe it. A complete format, reinstall, then AV scan of the files you saved from before the drive wipe. Prolly overkill, but thats the way I roll...or some such...

The first thing I would do is cut the connections (to the internet and all other connections that could help spread it) on the infected pc. Whiping the disk will of course fix it, but in most cases it's worth a try to attempt to remove it first. I guess what I would try is to boot in safe mode and let your virus scanner, and whatever other software you can throw at it, take it on and/or manually remove files that you suspect are malicious. Good luck.

Yeah definitely disconnect your internet A.S.A.P because this program could be downloading more rubbish to your computer and once disconnected the hacker will not be able to control your computer anymore as his path to it is blocked. Then completely scan your computer and hopefully it will be detected. If your security detects it try removing it but first I would research it to see how difficult it is to remove. If its very difficult I would either do System restore back to a safe date or maybe download a program called hijackthis and send the report to someone professional through a forum or something that somebody can review and advise you safely on.

Wiping your drive should be the last resort but as i said always disconnect your internet and the easiet most effective option I could imagine would be a restore.

Good luck.

someone else said it but it bears repeating

disconnect the internet connection
system restore as FAR BACK as you can before you got the virus
boot in safe mode and run every virus scanner you have (i use ad aware and avg and they're both pretty good)
once done, reboot in safe mode and run the virus scanner AGAIN to make sure it was fully deleted

if its not then do a little research and see if other people have gotten it off their system. i've killed some pretty tough viruses using the 4 steps above (viruses that i couldn't figure out anything else to do)
