I'm not good with laptops... this is my first.I have a netbook however.

I'm looking for a laptop ~$700 not for gaming

Is this laptop any good?

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-AS7740-6656-17-3-Inch-Display/dp/B00336EFXG/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=pc&qid=1264160083&sr=1-13

I am aware that it has a good cpu (core i5)?

the only game i will ever run is rise of nations. A game released in 2003, so an integrated gpu will be sufficent.

How much better is the core i5 compared to a laptop cpu in the price range of $700.

Is the Acer brand any good?

That's a large, and heavy laptop, I'm guessing you're not wanting a light, and rather portable laptop?

as i said I'm not good with laptops... but i do like large screens. EDIT: I don't really want a portable laptop, I'm not going to carry it around that much.

It's a nice laptop but it has an integrated graphics card. So therefore not good enough to handle new games. Try to find one with.. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 / 4650 / 4670 or.. Nvidia GeForce 9600M / 240M

I think it looks a cracking laptop if you're not planning on gaming and don't need portability - the i5 should be pretty nippy.

The only thing that would concern me is no word of screen resolution (unless I'm being silly), I'd try and find that out from another source cause you don't want to go spending that amount of money if things are going to look poor.
