Hi guys,

I have an important decision to make and I need as much evidence to support my decision as I can gather. I'm a teenager moving across the country and away from home to begin living on my own in LA, with the exception of a roomate. I won't be able to bring my desktop as their isn't enough room in the apartment. Also I'm going to need to be as mobile as possible. So I pose you the question: Ipad or Macbook pro/air?

I've done research on each's pro's and cons; I've found that the Ipad 3 is truly a great substitute to laptops but their are some things that keep it from being a logic main computer. Mainly what I've found is it can't multitask very fluidly and the hard drive is somewhat limited.

What are your thoughts?

I have been on an Ipad and they are great products, in the UK at least they are also not a bad price. I would recommend the Ipad over a Mac Laptop by far as long as you dont plan to write essays or something on it.

Why would anyone consider a table over a laptop? That's stupid. Just get a Windows laptop and you'll be set and won't have spent a lot of money. For the price of an iPad you can get a pretty good laptop. Out of your two options though, get the mackbook, even though Mac PCs are a huge ripoff, it's not my money you're wasting. :P

anything but mac.

Tablets are like an oversized phone. They are useless and just for hipsters.

Macs are overpriced garbage. Also for hipsters.

If you're willing to spend for a MacBook Pro, why not buy an iPad and a low-cost Windows laptop? You could get both at a lower price than a MacBook Pro.

Tablets are only good for browsing content, laptops are good for both browsing and creating content. Since you can only have one I would go with the one that is more versatile (laptop).

As long as there is an apple logo than Im good.

Like everyone else said Apple is full of crap with hardware specs that are already outclassed and outdated right out of the store. I know some people here likes sager and I agree those the go to laptops for price:perf, but is up to you. I mean if you are self conscious about your gadget and view them as a fashion statement than by all means do it.

I guess if cost isn't that big of a issue go with a laptop or MacBook. I love my iPad, but it's a bit limited in certain areas. I mainly just web browse and play with certain apps on it. I think the laptop would give you more functionality. If you just needed it for entertainment and wanted to save $, go with the iPad.

You have to take it back to get the battery replace every 6 months on MacBooks? I have them at my job and we haven't really ran into that issue. Not saying it doesn't happen, I'm just saying we haven't experienced it, yet.

We send in about 2 macbooks a month for various problems, the most common being an unusable battery.

We also send a handful of imacs per for a lot of disk issues.

For our dell desktop and laptops I have only had to replace 1 of each this last year.

We have about 2000 pcs and 500 macs

Wow. I didn't know that. Well my iPad and my wife's iPad are good so far(knock on wood), so I hope they stay reliable.
