I got my new monitor yesterday, a Samsung T220. When i play games i always put Vertical Sync ON ( i cant stand the horizontal tearing effect when SYNC is OFF).

So, this monitor have a refresh rate of 75 hertz, when i play in 1280/1024 sync ON, max FPS is 75, but when i display in 1680/1050 Sync ON, max fps is only 60. . .

So, is it normal a 1680/1050 resolution only support 60 hertz ?? Is there any way i can set it to 75 hertz ??

Thx !!

I think it is common for a monitor that is 1680x1050 to be only 60Hz. My Samsung 226BW is, but that doesn't make it universally true of all monitors that are capable of this resolution. There is a possibility that if you turn off the "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" setting you will be able to select 75Hz for 1680x1050 and it will work - I can't be sure since I haven't used that monitor. But then again, what do you need 75Hz for on a LCD anyway? If you use VSync and your machine can do a constant 60 FPS in the games you are playing, then you aren't missing anything. The human eye isn't really good enough to tell the difference between 60 and 75 FPS - especially on an LCD which works differently than a CRT.

60hz should be plenty fast for any display. I wouldnt worry about needing to go up to 75hz.

60 Hz is the standard for LCDs. This can been translated as saying that your monitor updates 60 times per second, which is more than enough considering movies are filmed at 24 FPS, TV at 30, and that the human eye can't detect much difference above 34-36 unless you have amazing eyes. For people that say they can tell the difference, its not that you see the higher framerate...its that your eyes percieve an increased smoothness due to texture processing speeds. In other words, some games even at 60 FPS can seem "jerky" or "sheary" while a game at 40 FPS can seem smooth. V-SYNC forces your framerate to cap at your max refresh which removes tearing.
