hi folks, i'm gonna purchase a netbook, which will be used almost exclusively for studies. due to budget constraints i will buy either Fujitsu mh330 or Eee PC 1005p, both of which come with 1GB of RAM. my question is, is it going to be enough for regular tasks, considering that the default OS is Windows 7 starter? remember, i won't use it for gaming and i don't do programming. thanks for your input.

You will probably want to get another gigabyte of RAM sometime later, but 1GB will be sufficient for most tasks.

1 GB netbook suitable for assignments and some light-games like old games and the flash games. Heavy games like crysis, you don't need an ordinary netbook, but gaming netbok or laptop does it.

i thought so too... until i recalled that Windows 7 requires 1GB of ram to begin with. is this going to be an issue?

also, i am under the impression that netbooks are not upgradable?

I have a 1GB netbook with Linux Mint LXDE. 1GB is more than enough for general tasks (word processing, internet, pdf's, powerpoint presentations, etc). Mint alone only uses 82MB which, I think, maked it a superior OS to windows for netbooks.

Would ReadyBoost be appropriate here? Never fooled with it, but from what I understand of it, seems ideal.

Readybost is just making more worse, i had been testing this feature, but it probably making my pc getting slower. Alternative software like eboostr would give a great performances. Windows 7 is usually need at least 1 GB to operate this OS, but some of the pc's that equipped with win 7 doesn't use too much memory because if you're using 1GB on your pc, you would probaly see how many MB of RAM that is useable, Using 1GB of RAM doesn't meant that 1GB of ram is useable, but sometimes OS use less from the RAM capacity, depending what types of memory module which is used.

When going over 1GB RAM in usage your computer will start to swap parts of memory onto disk to free real memory, and since you typically have a 5400rpm HD this will be more apparent compared to a fast disc.

On the other hand, you probably will not run that much stuff simultaneously on a netbook, so your RAM needs will probably not be as high as on a stationary computer.

hi there if you are running windows 7 32 bit you will need 1gb of RAM minimum requirement, however if you are thinking of using windows 7 64 bit you need 2gb of RAM minimum requirement. but i think that 1 gb should be enough if you dont do gaming or video editing on it macrome
