Ok I'm going to upgrade my pc this year, starting off first with upgrading my cpu to a A64 X2 3800+ (It fits my mobo), and my gpu to a dx10 card later this year. Question is, I have a 550W power supply is it enough?

Plenty. Is it a decent quality PSU? If its not, then it means nothing.

Yeah that PSU is fine. As far as I know, the minimum PSU required to run an 8800GTX is 450W to 500W.

60A on the +12V ? Wow ! They sure are power-hungry - and you need 2 6-pin PCI-E connectors to power them.

for my cpu though i need that extra juice to power the several hd drives, extra fans, optical drives, led lights (lol) and not to mention oc'ing the stuff, i'm sure 40 amps is good if you don't have a billion other things to power. :)

note, ive seen the 8800 gtx's powered by the corsair 620 watter, that's quite awesome, though it has a hefty 50 amps on its 12 volt rail ;)

Yep, the 40amp PSU I was talking about was it's little bro, the HX520w.
A Corsair Rep personally tested the PSU with dual 8800GTXs and said he hasn't had a problem.

Just got my Corsair 620w earlier today, paid $147 for it from ZZF.com and there is a $20 MIR.
Can't beat a $127 PSU that can power two 8800GTXs.

Well, from my research, single rails usually are extremely stable ripple-wise, though that might just be the PCP&C build quality.  Also depending on the exact design of a multi rail psu, some power might be "trapped" on a certain rail and unuseable for other needs.

Multi rails seem to  be the cheaper, easier way to get high wattage PSUs, they also seem to be slightly more effiicient.

The problem will be not your PSU, but the rest of your future hardware, if you are planning on buying 8800 GTS or 8800 GTX. 3800 X2 is not enough for these cards. You should worry about upgrading to C2D or getting a 4600+ X2 instead. So you won't get a maximum performance of your GFX unless you get a faster CPU.

yeah i really admire pc power and cooling's build quality, and perhaps undoubtedly the produce the best psu's out there, yeah but don't multi-rails usually produce more cleaner output? at least that's what i heard was one of the pluses for it versus single-railers...
