if you can afford 8800GT, get it. Because its better.

Otherwise you can also get a tiny bit worse 9600gt which is good for it's money aswell.

Im not totally familliar with the 9600Gt stock cooler but I belive 9600Gt runs cooler and a little more quiet than 8800Gt reference cooler does.

But if you are looki'n at a 8800Gt you migh want to go with one that has a better cooler. (almoust evry OC'ed card has one)

8GB ram is a waste, you'll hardly use 3Gb gaming.

i would take 2gb or 3gb of Really nice fast ram which overclocks like a dream over 8gb any day.

so on the back of that i would go with the 1st option, as you can earn money at a later day the bit of extra money now is not that significant now. Unless you really need that money now.

This is kinda interesting, as I was going to post a topic asking peoples' advice on this matter.

Ive decided to replace my 7900GTX, and both the 8800GT and 9600GT are better, but the 9600 is about 30 quid (pounds - to the americans) cheaper on eBay.

Ive looked at the stats on nVidia's website, and, after ruling out an 8800GTS, I compared the two GTs.

An 8800 GT is equal or worse by the numbers in every column except for texture fill rate. So my question is, what should my priorities be? Clock speed, fill rate? Memory? If it's anything other than texture fill, I'd go 9600.

Well as we all (or i though) know that numbers mean almoust zero, numbers just show the abbility not the actual performance.

8800Gt 512 is the faster of them two overall, well documented is many,many,many (and a little more) benchmarks.

The 9600 GT seems to be slower in shader intensive games and the next games that are about to be released will be surely shader intensive. That is why I believe that a 8800 GT will be the smarter choice.112 stream processor vs 64 and you can always over clock the 8800GT to 650

The numbers are all I've got to go on though, anyway, according to PC Gamer the 9600GT is only slightly slower, and should be the new budget card of choice. Frankly, either one is a damsight better than my 7900GTX.

Anyway, I'll go find some benchmarks
