Age of Empires and Warcraft were games which i really enjoyed playing. I am still playing Warcraft, but haven't heard any news of Age of Empires. I don't know if this series is dead (I hope not). Guys post reply, if you know any news of this game.

Ensemble, the guys who made it have been shut down so the license is just lingering about in Microsoft land collecting dirt and dust.

The studio that made Age of Empires shut down along with Microsoft's flight simulator studio. So the licences is just sitting there.

Microsoft shut down Ensemble Studios, the development team responsible for the "Age of ..." games, so those people probably won't be making another "Age of ..." game, although most will probably find jobs at other studios, though possibly scattered.

Microsoft still own the AoE IP I think, and Ensemble was shut down after Halo Wars (FFS) and also split after AoE2 (creating Big Huge Games). So yeah AoE is well, dead. Shame. Perhaps look towards the new Settlers game, apparently one of the original central designers of AoE is working on it.... potential goodness, only problem is the horrible Ubisoft DRM.

ya they shut down ensemble, even though the Age of Empires series and halo wars were both a success. So the series is dead, atleast for now.

Short answer Microsoft were looking to cut costs so they could pour yet more resources into the xbox 360 so Ensemble got canned.

Actually, they were looking to cut costs so they could start making back some of the money they lost from the original xbox and the first few years of 360. It wasn't a coincedence that the first time Microsoft's game department made a profit (and a small one at that) was after they fired Ensemble and the Flight simulator people. THAT SAID. Microsoft still own the AoE IP and have said that they don't plan on letting the series die. But if it ever comes out, it won't be the AoE we want because it'll probably be on the 360.

Ensemble has been shutdown, but the original creators are now working for Bonfire Studios and Robot Enterteinment. It doesn't seem that either of those will put out to buy the license from Microsoft.

Not entirely. There are two other studios also made up of people who worked on AOE 1-3.

It might be, the folks from Ensemble set up a new studio so they could possibly make another iteration.

I like how everyone who replied to this thread just stated the same exact answer the previous 15 posters stated. It's like a broken record in the form of a thread. "The developer responsible for Age of Empires was shut down... the developer responsible for Age of Empires was shut down... the developer responsible for Age of Empires was shut down... the developer responsible for Age of Empires was shut down... the developer responsible for Age of Empires was shut down... the developer responsible for Age of Empires was shut down... the developer responsible for Age of Empires was shut down... the developer responsible for Age of Empires was shut down ... the developer responsible for Age of Empires was shut down."

Do you think the TS gets it by now?

If they make a new Age of Empires they should make it abit more advanced with a remake of the first two with new features and so on :) and ofc new graphics :P... But in my opinion the first two was best...

Same group of guys could always open another studio and make an Age of Empires clone. I believe that have already happened with Stainless Studio which made Empire Earth and Rise and Fall: Civilization At War, who produced Age of Empires.
