Oh it definitely beats the AMD processors. But right now it's really not needed. If you have AMD, its probably not worth getting an i7 right now anyways.

It doesn't certainly beat what AMD has in their line-up right now, but even the normal quad-cores are still unneeded for most applications, so spending 400-1200 dollars on a CPU is just madness. Although, depending on your motherboard, you have to stick with either AMD or Intel. So for the most part, you won't have a choice between the two.

I really dont think an i7 is worth the price. For the most bang for the buck, id go with an AMD Phenom II Quadcore.
