I loved the gameplay and graphics until someone pointed out this.Swiftstrike5........ I didn't think PC games got downgraded
I loved the gameplay and graphics until someone pointed out this.Swiftstrike5
wow! there is a big difference between the two... still, i'm getting it, as soon as i upgrade my pc and the price drops below $40.
I just got done with the demo, and don''t get me wrong, it was good. But it didn't totaly amaze me (gameplay wise) The graphics were amazing, and the physics, but the suit didn't seem as useful as I thought it would be. It was like far Cry instincts, except for I needed to switch in between and ran out of the suits battery (or whatever it is) very quickly. It also took alot of bullets to kill one guy.... I liked it, but expected more.ndrliang2
Yes, this is because they have body armor, shoot in the head!
I loved the gameplay and graphics until someone pointed out this.Swiftstrike5
ack! yeah that is a bit... discouraging. I still plan on getting it tho :)
I think it was great. Although I think it is too much of a system hog and the suit powers are a bit too weak. The speed uses the energy too fast, the strength is waaaaay too weak and the camo uses a bit too much energy. Those are the only two things that I disliked about it. I hope the suit powers are improved in the retail version and that the game wouldn't be as demanding.turaaggeliThe nanosuit is meant to assist in your tactics, not completely change them for you.
I loved the gameplay and graphics until someone pointed out this.Swiftstrike5I was telling guys that the visuals felt they were toned down to even make the game playable on the latest 8 series card. I specifically said if you was to even max the demo it still wont come close to what was promised but people were being very ignorant against me in many ways but hey let them believe what they want I guess. Truly a disappointment for me and rather just wait it out till cards on the market can play it at it's full potential.

well, even at max, it won't look like it did back then. it's not a matter of tweaking the settings. it seems they got rid of some graphical features altogether. the two screenshots look completely different.

But you have to think about the differences in those screenshots
The first one is in an action enviornment showingo ff particle effects with motion blur AND using a different gun( which has a more flat look to it so you can tell its metal). The second is not in an action enviornment, is not showing off any motion blur or particle effects and is using a different gun.
In game, I was stunned at how good it looked on just high DX9 settings( friend switched it down so I could see). I can't imagine Full dx10

Indeed you correct. I told people I have a good eye. Again thx for that link bud.[QUOTE="Swiftstrike5"]I loved the gameplay and graphics until someone pointed out this.OoSuperMarioOI was telling guys that the visuals felt they were toned down to even make the game playable on the latest 8 series card. Yeah, I think I might go with GoW for awhile then pick up Crysis after a few patches and see what its like. I hope it doesn't become a standard for pre-rendering trailers (and saying actual gameplay) that no one can possibly reach with the current hardware (or even test at those levels... theres no option to get those kind of graphics).
I was disappointed by the graphics (missed the "wow" impact impact Far Cry had), the performance (I expected to play on high with no worries on a high-end system), the gameplay (despite the suit options it's extremely straight-forward), the guns (automatic weapons feel weak unless operated in semi-auto mode)and setting (feels like a copy of Far Cry). The AI is surprisingly good though (follows you around on the map).

I am aware of that. I didn't mean a huge improvement where you can pick up cars and throw them 500 meters away and run with maximum speed from one end of the island to the other. But the speed uses the energy wayy too fast. You run a couple meters and boom your energy is drained and the strenght is also way too weak. You pick up a guy and throw him and he flies a few meters away....
Wow, that image is incredible!
I'm pretty disapointed personally. My biggest beef is that CoD4 runs really well on my PC on the highest settings and looks simply fantastic while pulling in 30 fps or more (dipping down to 24 when you're defending the War Pig for a bit). Meanwhile my PC absolutely struggles with Crysis on medium and barely pulls in more than 10 fps. Additionally, the "cut scenes" look really bad if your PC can't render them at 30fps+, which mine can't even on the lowest settings. The gameplay was fun and interesting (loved clearing forests with guns), but also frusturating as the one guy you don't see alerts the entire populace of the island to your presence. Thankfully it is just a demo, and really a good demo at that, but hopefully there is some optimization done between now and release.

but the shadows are completely different. the first looks like it could be from a movie. the second is obviously a game. a very, very, very nice looking game but a game nevertheless.

You pick up a guy and throw him with no strenth and he flies a few meters. Pick up a guy and throw him siwth strength and he goes about 3 times that distanceYou deserve a Xbox 360 achievement, you literally took the words right out my mouth in what I was going to type in my next post.I was disappointed by the graphics (missed the "wow" impact impact Far Cry had), the performance (I expected to play on high with no worries on a high-end system), the gameplay (despite the suit options it's extremely straight-forward), the guns (automatic weapons feel weak unless operated in semi-auto mode)and setting (feels like a copy of Far Cry). First off I removed my preorder on GoW because to do pretty much any purposeful online play you have to have a gold windows live acount which is BS. Second there are different day night cycles ... the sunlight doesnt look like it is filtering straight down in that second pic. During certain times in the day it does look pretty darn close when the light is filtering down through everything ... but normally inbetween it looks like the picture you linked.ColdfireTrilogy
GoW only requires Silver, which is free, for multiplayer.

But the WOW factor is so big because one is showing off a ton of graphical features and the other is not, because of the situation.I agree Crysis doesn't look as good as the top one, but in the same firefight situation it would look mindblowingly good.

yeah, i agree, they both look great. but besides all the other effects that the top one is showing off (motion blur, particle dust, etc.), it looks lifelike, unlike the bottom one, and i think it has a lot to do with the shading. i'm not saying that a game has to look lifelike (art direction is very important in games), but crysis obviouly was going for lifelike, and they decided to dumb down the graphics a little bit (perhaps because of performance issues) and it resulted in the game not having quite that sheen to make it lifelike. no one would mistake the bottom screenshot as being anything other than that of a game.
Not in the least. I wasn't expecting much, perhaps just a Far Cry clone with prettier graphics. I got one of the most advanced and well polished FPS's I've played in my life... and its just the demo with one level.Or you just rather played better shooters out there with your time. Honestly no matter how much time I put into Crysis it still feels as if I've played it already which is not really a bad thing but my expectations were far greater and I rarely find difficulty in shooters today compare to F.E.A.R or even Quake.
Either you haven't played enough of it to appreciate the subtleties (I know after my first play-through, I was somewhat disappointed as well, then after that I was hooked) or you just doing it wrong. Perhaps trying to play it like a console FPS.foxhound_fox
I was dissapointed that you coundt even shoot thebad guys around after they were dead. Even far cry had that, most modern fps games have that.mimic-Denmark
crytek isnt allowed to do that because they are based in germany...where laws are very strict on this.
Its possible they may release it in the US version though.
yeah seriously, I wanted to use a dead guy as a shield, you could do that with a live one!
People complain about guys bieng too hard to kill, and about the accuracy of guns, but you gotta realize, you only have your ironsights and that reflex sight! long range shooting with those, is a pain in the arse. Use the assault scop in the editor, and you'll see the difference in accuracy.
Oh, and yes the KPA has body armor, they'd be stupid not to wear it. The suit is also not supposed to make you a super soldier, it's just this extreme neccessity in order for you to survive, the cloack only uses energy fast when you are moving, stand still and you'll be invisible for a long time. oh, turning on your strength also makes your gun way more accurate, so at long ranges, definetly use it, even with your iron and reflex sights.
The strength totally depends on how much energy is in the suit, the strength can frikin' break down walls and launch guys way farther then you could think of at full energy, heck, you can knock a chicken into orbit with your strength.

That is just for presentation proposes. That could NEVER be afforted in this year (2007)
Just wait till 2009 or something...
Megatuga
it is very sad if we have to wait till 2009. maybe call of duty 7 is already out
Well, I think you have to look at a couple key issues:
1) Call of Duty 4 runs better with graphics on par with Crysis.
2) Shooting enemies is not very satisfying. Enemies are hard to kill even on the easiest setting. It seems difficult to place a shot accurately.
3) The blood and gore seems toned down. Limbs don't fly off. Bodies just lay statically. This is very, very disappointing. In fact, it might factor into me not even buying the game.

we've already covered most of those issues, next time read the whole thread.
Besides getting hit with a rocket launcher directly or getting shot with a Gauss rifle, the gore is fine! People aren't pieces of toilet paper, it takes a little more firepower to rip them apart, stop living in the action movie world, the only hollywoodized thing in Crysis is how easily vehicles explode.
and CoD4's graphics are CRAP compared to crysis, the textures are so low res I can hardly tell what I'm looking at, the models aren't bad though.
If i were to decide the crysis team would work another six month on blood, gore and all the juicy stuff that would make this game the greatest of all time! They should also improve the speed and strenght abilities so that you can run a little longer and punch holes through cars and koreans alike.can0of0cheese
*cough* Mods *cough*
seriously! there will be some freakin awesome mods for Crysis!

Crytek is based in Germany, and Germany doesn't allow excessive gore. That's why there's no wound decals, large blood puddles or spatter marks, no ability to do anything to corpses, etc.

Then they should seriously move out of germany.

Just move the company right over the border to Denmark ;) Here we dont care...
well atleast Germany aint like in the USA, where blood and gore so excessive that it gets redicilous (and very very amusing) but where the games gets slammed if there is as much as a womans breast in the game... I mean come on, what of those two things is more natural, and less harmful for the viewer?
But yeah come to Denmark, here we do not care about violence, bad language, drug abuze, nudity, or our own grandmothers ^^
I do hope Crysis will have blood and gore, at some point.
