Really though? Is anyone else just a little disappointed with what Blizzard has done with the story? I mean, I have played the Warcraft games from Warcraft 2 all the way up to a little bit of WOTLK (I didn't raid much). I was alright with the story of vanilla WoW and then I was willing to accept BC, but the story is now so incredibly crazy and backwards that I can't help be a little disappointed. I feel like it's as if someone took a great fantasy epic like Lord of the Rings and made it into some kind of crazy anime story where there is ALWAYS one more bad guy and he's ALWAYS just a little bit more powerful/evil/whatever than the last guy you just beat. It really reeks of Activision if you ask me. Anyway, I was just curious to know if anyone else shared this sentiment.

Well I always wondered what happened after Warcraft 3 to Arthas and WotLK satisfied me with some answers.

They are really pushing the lore with cataclysm imo. I'd rather see a Warcraft 4 than a new WoW expansion

I want to see a new IP from blizzard, that's what I want to see. I feel like the warcraft world has been irreparably soiled and I think they should just wrap it up and then move on to something new and fresh.

I would like for them to just pretend WoW story never happened or it is some type of alternate universe or something and have WC4 continue the story from the third one.

I've heard that Warcraft 4 will continue from the end of Warcraft 3, or something like that.

WOW was awesome when it was first released. It was amazing going on a 200 man raid on the Human main city and killing all the quest givers and well just about every body. And the fun of being ganked by a 50 man lvl60 strong alliance raid at Tarren Mill while being lvl30ish. The joys were truly immense. All this happened on the PvP servers...But people(retards) started to complain they were getting ganked on a PvP server when in actual fact these very players should have been using the PvE servers to aviod this style of gameplay. Shortly after this all raids world wide were replaced with battlegraounds for the tards. This is when i stopped playing, about 5-6 months after launch.

The only thing that really disappointed me was how they handled Arthas and the Lich King in the end. I mean it completely craps on the WC3/Frozen Throne Lore by trying to make Arthas a good guy who was trying to keep the scourge at bay.

Actually, I believe they've already started working on another MMO based on a new IP.

when wow came it out i didnt have a story, it was just you in the uh world of warcraft so to speak, this improved a bit with bc but not much,

WOTLK changed alot of that and started to move the story forward in the mmo, i think thats great and i love were the story is

unclejohnny79

They had random adventurers kill arthas, illidan, and two old gods as well as a dragon aspect. If anything they ****ed up any lore they had.

In terms of the story, I have to say that I can't blame Blizzard, I mean they needed something to work with for WoW. However, if they do make a Warcraft IV, they're going to have to disregard the events of WoW and make the two both unrelated because they did kind of mess with the story.

Command and Conquer has diverged. It can happen with WarCraft. Or they can take main points from WoW and apply it into WarCraft 4. It's Blizzard so it is doable.

What do u mean? so u want the story to progress with LESS powerful characters/bad guys? Every story is about a bad person/characters/entity etc, and then something else more badass or same entity more powerful. I think WoW did a great thing for the lore....it expanded on it and introduced side characters and side stories that were great... Im sick of RTS people complaining about WoW, just don't play it....Warcraft 4 is coming, be patient...

I believe Warcraft 4 will be kind of a "side-story" to whats happening in WoW at that moment.... like a spin off series...

****Spoiler Alert****

They tried to make him seem conflicted. He was the "insane hero" just like all of blizzard's bad guys lately. I think the dude who posted that he was trying to keep the scourge at bay misunderstood this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6znru0baUSo Where bolvar becomes the new Lich King. Arthas was trying to be "King of the World" and rule forever. Most likely because the creature that was known as the Lich King was a mix of Ner'Zhul and Arthas' collective consciousnesses. So Arthas' motivations as the Lich King were probably driven in part by Ner'Zhul's thirst for power which led him to become the original lich king (unwillingly). However, Bolvar takes up the crown to control the scourge who are going to go crazy without a Lich King (think zerg without the overmind).

Warcraft and WoW are not in the same series.. They may share story and setting.. But otuside of that you can't compare them.. sSubZerOo

Exactly

What happens in WoW is essentially nothing but a continuous series of side stories. Yes, you might battle against significant figures in WoW lore (Arthas, for example, and many more), but ultimately those battles can end any way Blizzard wants to interpret them.

For 99.9% of the game, however, it has no impact on the Warcraft 3 universe and, if it comes, the Warcraft 4 universe.

it is, and it isnt.

my personal feeling is that, in the RTS series, you play this grande general overseeing the entire war.

in WoW, you are essentially a peon participating in these battles, no matter how epic your gear is. No matter how powerful you are, you are fighting things battle by battle. You are not determining the course of action in the grand scheme of things so much as you are determining the battle.

So while a lot of what you do in WoW extends beyond what occurred in Warcraft 3 and TFT in terms of the lore, ultimately it will all come together in Warcraft 4 because, again, you are simply a peon in battles, and not the general commander of the war.

Warcraft 4 will be able to reference things in WoW because that is how they intended things to happen. Blizzard, for better or worse, did not make their MMO dynamic in terms of winning or losing...they intended the player to win and continue the storyline.

ahhh, but u are talking about the way YOU experience the story (general or pawn). The story still is the SAME between both games...

Blizzard is making pathetical attempts to keep the story alive, but while doing so they actually ruin it. That seems to please the huge amount of kids that has been lurking the game over the past few years though, and that's why I quit about ten months ago. Vanilla WoW was epic, BC felt weird, WOTLK killed the Warcraft universe. Reviving already dead heroes (I'm talking about a certain dwarf), twisting the story in a ridiculous way, recycling equipment and much more. Now they are even trying to rebuild the old continents. Yet another commercial move that will grant them success with minimal effort (if compared to building a whole new continent).

I loved the story up to the end of the burning crusade. At the point they killed of Illidan, they lost me. And now killing of Arthas ? Those guys deserved a better ending, a better, bigger battle. They deserved death on a grand scale. A party of heroes shouldn't be enough to kill the most emblematic characters in WarCraft. Characters like Arthas and Illidan shaped the face of this game! I don't think that it's a good thing to kill such characters like some boss-type-thing in a MMORPG.

A big letdown indeed.

I wont say anything bad about WoW as a game , but i can easily say 213017297 bad things about its story and how easily they ruined it.

And now , dont expect Warcraft 4 with 2 of the most popular heros dead...

( i mean how the @#$$ 25 random people ( common soldiers ) can kill someone as a hero class as Illidan or Arthas? ) ... its just crazy...

i hate what they've done.. they burned there character from warcraft's 1 & 2 for the sake of gameplay..and all the lore form that age is esnetially dead with it. its kind of dissappointing.

... Ok and Warcraft 3 more or less made a completely new story arch from the second with alittle back drop.. What made teh game was the gameplay, and multiplayer.. The singleplayer was good, but it was hardly the draw.. And they can just as easily make a new storyline if they wanted..

LOTS of hatred for the way the story continued... What do you guys want? Illidan and Arthas to live forever, and keep on fighting the same enemies? It's good that they got killed off, opens up the story for NEW enemies and story...
