Is anyone else not buying Spore now?

I've been following this game eagerly since it's announcement, but when I heard that It was going have Securom I lost interest.

But what's this? An announcement that it wont have the same copy protection that plagued Bioshock? Wow, did my interest in this game resurge at that moment.

But then recently I found out that EA changed their mind, and decided to put it back in anyways.

Anyways, are any of the other people that have been following this game since it's announcement dissapointed thtat this had to happen? For me Securom wouldn't be a problem, but the install limit (putting in new hardware counts as an install by the way) just took it too far.

I couldn't care less. And I don't know about your copy but I had no problems whatsoever with Bioshock.

where is the option "i got turned off long ago"

when ... 1 year away from release, a dude said "spore will be great and we have a lot more greater ideas for expansion packs" i just couldn't believe it ... things that could be in the game, aren't even added to it, yet

i guess spore will be as complete as promised, 4 months after release when the 6th expansion is released

I normally wouldn't care, but if you install new hardware, it takes up one of your installs.

What do you expect? It's Will Wright, look at the Sims. Like 10 expansion packs for each game.

Because when I buy a game, I buy it. If I'm paying 50 bucks I should have the right to install it on every computer in my freakin house ten times over if I want.

It probably only promotes piracy, as people that normally wouldn't delve into the world of bypassing protection, are forced to just to play a game they paid for. Then after seeing how easy it is, continue to do so with other games. Why they put so much effort into security I don't know, are there any non-cracked games besides online support that haven't been cracked? And usually they are even done so before the game is officially released, as is the case with Spore.

This.

I know a few people that were pretty excited for Spore, but when they found out that installing new hardware counts as one of your installs, and that securom doesn't let you mount virtual drives, even if you own the games that you are mounting and just don't want to be messing around with a ton of CD's.

according to the EULA's since forever, you've never had that right. ditto for trying to do LAN play off of one copy since like.. 1997 or 1998.

Well that only further promotes piracy imo. Why should we be forced to wait X number of days to play? These publishers have to be aware people are eager to play their products. When you can just grab it, sometimes weeks, before it's available for retail in your area, it's hard to pass up, especially with the year long drought. Make the game right and don't use other countries as testers.

Couldn't care less about Spore, but Stalker: Clear Sky is a game I've been awaiting. If it had come out here when the Russians got it, I'd have probably picked it up first day. Now after playing it, I don't think I'm going to, at least not till it drops in price a bit and there are some good mods.

Only if you drastically change your hardware. I added a gig of ram, a new video card and a new sound card and it didn't use one of my installs for Bioshock. It's not as big of a deal as you are making it out to be.

what happened to clear sky, anyway? the thing's been getting pretty mediocre reviews across the board, and i really don't get it. it just seems a stretch that so many places would be scoring the game LOWER than the original STALKER did, which looks to be the trend. it doesn't help i guess, but it's pretty much a reality that we never really see, being in the US. most other countries pay almost twice what we do in the US for games, and we still buy less than they do at retail haha.

You know, I've had fun with the creature creater, but beyond that, it's really not keeping my interest. Maybe once I play the full game I'll change my mind, but for now, I have other games I want to play first.

I installed Spore with absolutely no problems.
The copy-protection thing on Bioshock was a nightmare (their server was down when the game was released in Australia, so nobody could play it until later that night), but it was perfectly smooth and quite fast with Spore.

Spore previews have never impressed me. And reviews pretty much confirm what I could already see before. There is virtually no significantly gameplay. It's just gives a bunch of people the chance to pretend to be original, funny, or cute. The cartoonish style of it all is more sickening then watching a weeklong marathon of saturday morning cartoons. It looks like something better suited for a Nintendo game system.

I'll be honest...I'm probably going to download this hacked as I don't want the BS of buying again at some point in the future. I LOVE Stardocks philosophy and will pay for their games (I bought 2 copys of Sins...1 for me, 1 for my brother) because of the hassle free installations. I'm going to be getting some new parts for my pc in the next few months, so I don't want to buy spore now, and then buy the same IP at a later point. I'll go buy a copy later after I'm done upgrading my pc to "justify" myself. lol...Don't like stealing, but C'mon EA.

You do know that you don't buy it again after 3 installations are done right? You can phone them up, takes about 10mins, and they give you another 3 installations.
Granted, they shouldn't of done it this way, it's a hassle and really annoying for some at the end of the day, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be.

Zhokel

You can phone them up, but just in a few countries, it takes about 20 minutes to actually talk with somebody and if you are lucky you will get 1 install after 6 days, if you email them one month or so should do it :| so no thanks.

ME is enough to handle for me right now, if I will ever need to get another activation (hopefully never, but I doubt it :()

i'm gonna buy it. i'm not expecting much from it, so i wouldn't be surprised if i stop playing it after a couple of hours. and i'll probably wait for the price to drop to $40 or so before buying it. or maybe wait for the complete version that'll have all 10 expansions to be released.

Mass Effect turned me off to the security thing. I ended up returning my PC copy and getting it for the 360 for that and other reasons. I am mildly interested in Spore but doubt I'll get it as I'm at the point in gaming where any type of hassle just makes me not want to play the game. In the long run I guess I'll be missing out on some good games, but i'll also be saving money for other hobbies.

Security issue run-a-rounds and bad programming is kinda alienating me from gaming.... which i've been doing since pong came out. :(

Don't care and never had an issue with Bioshock, ever. Seems like a very silly reason to not buy a game. Best case scenario EA makes getting more installs easy. Worst case scenario, there's a crack for it within 3 days of release.

Was sort of wavering before, but since hearing about this nonsense security, I'm definitely not getting it. I often upgrade my system. I don't want to be made to feel like I'm guiltily circumventing security or wasting time and money on phonecalls just to play a game which I own.

you own the game... nonsense security... but feel guilty circumventing it....

I am betting 95% of the complainers in here are doing it to try to make a point to the company that doesn't even read these boards. They will end up getting it despite their posturing.

If anyone upgrades their systems THAT MUCH (hard drive, OS... maybe it has a system board SN check...) then they need to take a class on how to build a system that lasts more than a month. When I build a system it runs games on high settings for 2-3 years. The only exception being Crysis... but since I'm not a graphics whore I refuse to upgrade for one game.

Nope, I think they're trying to show other gamers that by buying this game in its current state, they're agreeing to their rights of ownership being rapidly eroded.

another hdd won't trigger it (unless you reinstall windows on the new hd), a new motherboard 99% will trigger it. basically anything that would make windows think it's a new computer and want to be reactivated.

ok what about a new processor? well i guess it really doesnt matter, seeing as how the game will come down in price fast due to the security of it, and if you look at it from a marketing aspect, but as long as their customer service is decent i wouldnt mind getting the game even with the security bs... that is if the game strikes me as interesting, and it is to a small degree, but unless it has alot that i dont know about, im prolly not gonna get it for myself, but for my GF is a different story... she might love it.

[QUOTE="Makari"][QUOTE="Lach0121"]ok thats good then i read your first post... what i was saying was more questions than statements, but what happens if you install another hdd, or motherboard?Lach0121
another hdd won't trigger it (unless you reinstall windows on the new hd), a new motherboard 99% will trigger it. basically anything that would make windows think it's a new computer and want to be reactivated.

ok what about a new processor? well i guess it really doesnt matter, seeing as how the game will come down in price fast due to the security of it, and if you look at it from a marketing aspect, but as long as their customer service is decent i wouldnt mind getting the game even with the security bs... that is if the game strikes me as interesting, and it is to a small degree, but unless it has alot that i dont know about, im prolly not gonna get it for myself, but for my GF is a different story... she might love it.

new processor.. probably will, i've never changed one without changing a motherboard too =X i really don't think the price will drop any faster due to the protection, though i'm still wondering how they plan on getting all the non-gamers to buy the game like happened with the sims games. maybe i'm missing a lot of advertising or awareness of the game.
