Honestly, I didn't know what I was getting into. The only reason I bought it was for the functionalities it had. And because I desperately needed a headset with a microphone. The G35 is a nice solution to the ultimate gamer, especially if you're into competitive online gaming. Oh, I did forget to mention I only got it for $85 on eBay.

I wanted to know if you guys are satisfied with your G35 headset?

I thought for what came out of the box, it delivers pretty good sound, but nothing like non-usb headphones. Of course, you cannot tweak it through your sound card software or anything like that because it's usb. 7.1 does sound pretty good in games like Battlefield Bad Company 2. It has a nice punch to it when you get hit with a rocket launcher. :P

I can see myself using it quite a lot for gaming, but for other things like music... I definitely will stick with my Sennheisers or something similar in quality.

What did you like and not like about it?

For me it's Audiotechnica AD-700's and a FiiO E5 for any sound coming off the on board chip. Saving up for a Xonar Essense in the spring.

My brother has Sennheiser's, loves them, but wanted to try this. However, I heard that you could spend the same amount of money and get a great pair of headphones with a soundcard that would sound better. That is how I discouraged him. Though I don't think headphones can ever match the quality of speaker sound, I do love the Sennheiser's and I agree with you.

You would think wrong ;)

Take these AKG K1000s for example:

The sound quality from those is comparable to very high end equipment, from the range to distortion, depth and sound stage. The obvious downside is that only one person can listen. These are things I can hopefully cover in the Official Headphone thread.

Awesome. Which headphones were you using before you purchased the G35?

Yeah, Sennheiser is great. But then again, I've never tried anything else besides Logitech and Sennheiser. Unfortunately, I live an apartment so I just have 2.1 Bose speakers on my desktop. Far from the best, but it does the job. When I'm gaming, I put on the good ole headphones unless I'm feeling irritated that day and feel like just blasting my speakers. Would be nice to get at least a 5.1 surround sound speaker setup going in my room. Hook them up to each corner of the room.

Looking forward to some good info in the thread.

Yeah, Im quite happy, I "upgraded" from a creative Fatality headset, and the G35 were a great deal better, for games...

For music itaint very good, for moveis it is ok.

I still havent gotten a replacement for a headset to use with music in mind, I doubt I will get one untill hte very end of the year.

Ahh ok. Nice. =] It seems some people have two different headsets for different uses (music, gaming, etc). I'll most likely end up buying new headphones to upgrade from my old Sennheiser. Dont know which one yet, but I want to try something completely new.

Those things look kind of uncomfortable to be honest. I guess what I meant to say is, if circumstances are perfect (i.e. no neighbors, no noise restrictions, infinite budget), would you not prefer an incredible multi-thousand dollar surround sound system to a pair of $500 headphones?

Most definitely. But headphones do help in immersion. If it was a perfect world and i had my own house, I would use speakers/headphones 50-50.

Agreed. I was playing horror games with headphones in the dark --> unparalleled experience.

Agreed.

Amnesia + headphones + night time with no lights + house that makes a lot of noise for some reason + loud volume = unparalleled amount of pants gone to waste.

That's what I was playing! That, and this one called "The Void" that is pretty awesome as well.
