I was never a fan of AoE and got tired of AoE3 within a few weeks... I also know a long time fan of the series who was disappointed by AoE3 I haven't really heard people talk about it since it was released long time ago. I have no idea if people still play it online though
if you were a fan fan of aoe2 and aok, then your going to be very disappointed by aoe 3, but if you liked the aoe 3 demo, then by all means get it. i think its very boring, and is nowhere near as good as its predecessor.
AoE is AoE, if thats your thing then thats cool, but Company of Heroes is way better: great resource system, fast paced, emphasis on not losing even 1 unit, fantastic graphics, destructable environments, great audio, great campaign.
AoE III kicks ass. I love it. I've been playing it ever since I got my new PC (about 1 month ago); great fun and variety. Crysis beta is pulling me away though atm...
I like AOE a lot, I enjoyed AOE2 and like AOE3 the same. The online is VERY good and if you want a good game pick up the gold back for 40 bucks and the expanion October 23rd, 70 bucks you won't miss
It is slow paced compared to lets say CC3, but i love the game personally, mainly because aoe2 was my first rts i played and it has stuck with me. But yeah preference mainly
If you like AOE series, I don't think you can go wrong with Age of Empires 3. Just make sure you apply the patches though. I hear that without the patches the game has quite a lot of problems.
Well I liked it I downloaded the demo and thought that it was good. but before I buy it i want to make sure that people play Age of empires 3 on line.romeo85

above said it perfectly. There are many, many rtses that are much more fun to play. You might want to look at some of the THQ Rtses (Warhammer 40k, Company of Heroes, Homeworld 2) or go for the gold of classic RTS play and hit up Blizzard (Starcraft, Warcraft III: TFT).
