Not even worth the $20.00, and the statement "when it works" rings more true, than false. The title is ugly, poorly implemented, and just didn't get the real wolrd machine mechanics done right.
Operation Flashpoint is still vastly superior in comparision.
I would download Americas Army instead of buying ArmA after playing the demo oscar530
He doesn't want to play multiplayer. Americas Army sucks. ArmA is a pretty good game. If you wanted the best though, I'd purchase Operaton Flashpoint.
I'm also interested in the game. How large is the online community currently? I Tried playing the demo but there was hardly anybody playing it. Also, do most people play it solo like in battlefield games or is there more teamwork going on?ivan_69
I checked Game Monitor and there are like 500 people playing right now

Pretty good? ARMA sucks so bad if you put your ear up to the box you can hear the slurping. I wouldn't recommend putting your ear up to something that sucks that hard, but if you don't mind your colon being sucked through your ear then be my guest.
The good thing about Americas Army is it is capable of looking good, and capable of running across a wide array of systems where as ARMA, well does not. Its already been noted in the postings that it has issues with certain hardware. Hardware like the 8800 and the HD 3870 should be able to run the title flawlessly for the amount of graphics quality it is capable of. Don't give me map sizes once again I will denote Operation Flashpoint, and Joint Operations and the capability to run huge 50 sq/km maps.
Look at the forums surrounding the game the hate mail is classic, and the latest rating for ARMA: Gold from GFW Magazine gave it a "C" with the following verdict tagline, "Graphics still crappy; acting still crappy; level design even crappier."
If I were to recommend this game it, if I did my life would have to be in jeopardy, or I had to be on some really good mind-altering drugs, it would be with the disclaimer, "If you like this game, let me recommend wrapping your lips around a running car's hot exhaust pipe."
It works fine on my 8800 GTX. It was a bit buggy when it was just released but it works fine now.
ARMA is basically Operation Flashpoint 2. But the developers couldn't use the same name because the publisher stole it (legal mojo), so they named their new game Armed Assault. I wouldn't advise getting Operation Flashpoint (also called OFP) because ARMA is basically an improved OFP and OFP's graphics looks absolutely horrible by today's standards. By the way, I don't really get the people that say ARMA has bad graphics. At worst, the graphics might be average but they are certainly not bad. And if you can max the graphics, they look pretty good.
As for the teamwork, it's pretty much the same as in every other FPS. The community might be more mature with less annoying kids playing the game, but the teamwork is pretty much the same. In a public server, you'll find rarely any teamwork. So if you want solid teamwork, you have to join a clan (Like with every other game). The good thing about ARMA is that it's very open ended gameplay-wise and it's pretty damn realistic. So, the possibilities for tactics and strategies are almost limitless. But you need a clan for all of that, or a few friends. Once you play some co-op with people that you know and you actually start using tactics, it's hell of a lot of fun. So if you are not planning on joining a clan or playing with a few friends, there isn't much point in playing the game. I say that because in my opinion, realism games should only be played with lots of teamwork, else you might aswell just go back to the arcade games.
No, the singleplayer is average. The game is all about multiplayer. The friendly AI is just too stupid compared to real humans. The AI does all the basic stuff correct but it can't really do any other things right. You can't tell a squad member in an EASY and quick way to check around that corner or to fall back to those trees after you blow up that tank. And other stuff like that. The enemy AI works because usually they are in much larger numbers. So if they would use complex tactics against you, it would be hell. But the friendly AI has the opposite problem. There are only a few of them (and you) and to stay alive you have to do things that the AI simply can't do on their own. You would have to micro manage them, but this is often not possible because it will get you killed.
A human you can simply tell: "Go left and check the next corner". In the meantime, you can do whatever you want because you know that he will fullfill that order successfully on his own. An AI you have to give like 5 (waypoint) orders with pauses in between, while closely watching the AI to make sure they are doing the correct thing. So you just end up doing everything yourself.
EDIT: There' a very basic 3rd person view. Some people use this for the vehicles. I don't really like it, so I never use it myself. Many servers turn this feature off, by the way.
I would avoid this game at all costs, this game was a huge beta and practice for the devs to fund money to work on training products they sell to the military.
when i bought this game it was released with specific instructions on how to report back bugs and such you will find in the game, instead of releasing a beta they charged people full price for a game they invested into.
terrible terrible support, terrible community full of nazis, if you have problems which you will with this game, dont go to their forums expressing your feelings because youll get bashed then banned.
