I've been thinking about picking this game up for a while now since I loved Battlefield 2 so much, but none of my friends are playing it, and these days I really have no interest in joining a clan or even voice-chatting with people. To be clear, the teamwork aspect is what draws me to the game, but I'd just rather not get all chatty and personal with random strangers over the internet. Is the game fun to pick up and play by yourself here and there, or does it really require a lot of communication and interaction to be enjoyable?

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

I don't think it requires much communication to play. I actually rarely see communication in the game.

There is no team work in that game. Its ridiculously isolated. Nothing worse than acting all stealthy when you're a sniper in the bushes and then a teammate runs straight over the top of you.

To be fair there doesnt need to be any team chat going on. "Q" takes care of it all for you, the spotting, asking people for ammo, for health packs, attack a/b. Im one of the few people who will actually say something the entire game. Dont expect much squad team work going on. Its mostly played as an entire team rather than a few squads. Every now and then your squad works with you and you own up, but it doesnt happen very often.

It's nowhere near the scale of the main BF series and even then, I found communication to be pretty bad unless you had a group of friends or a clan. Just jump in and fend for yourself... while trying to win for your team.

Absolutely worth it. All my friends are on 360/PS3. I have an absolute blast with this game. Currently the only PC game I play. Get it!

I loved this game, but the lack of communication got old and I grew tired of the isolation. What started off as a a bang quickly became dull. I personally see this game dying out once BF3 is upon us.

It's one of the puzzling things about BC2, especially considering how easy and popular the voicechat was in BF2. There is a button for voice here, but no one ever talks, and when you try to talk you never get a reply. After trying a few times, I basically figured it was broken. If there is any voice going on, it is likely over Vent or TS, and both seem like hassle, especially since every server has their own, and it's not like I play on the same server all the time. So I, too, end up playing in silence, which is a real shame. Still, it's a helluva game.

Teamwork in BC2 occurs naturally; the maps are well-designed so theyre not overcrowded, and despite the lack of communication, thing just flow well and there is generally a good balance of the various classes (except for recon...people, stop sniping so damn much lol).

If recon is unbalanced, it's probably the other way. Too many snipers usually end up losing their teams the rounds. But yeah, the redesigned classes are awesome. At times it seems CG is king, but assault and medic rock it very respectably in their own way. Great balance all around.

Sounds like the perfect game for you. BC2 has very little voice chat and has enough info to get the job done without it. You can easily just join a squad and do your own thing. Truthfully this is what the majority of players do. BC2 doens't need a lot of communication. In fact I actually kinda like how I can just hop in and play games without listening to idiots talk.

every now and then I see the enemies communicate and come up with a really good strat. Just an hour ago I saw a squad of pure medics. That took a building and just kept reviving and reviving... then the build collapsed and they jumped from their attic to the next one. the rest of their team was snipers, so they never lost tickets and eventually won.

Y'know, I kinda agree with you. I like how there's restricted voice communication even between team-mates in BC2. Most players talk nonsense half of the time anyway. I hate putting up with some idiot hogging the voice-chat with his personal collection of emo-trash music. Or some American Idol reject trying to prove his talent on the mic. Add a couple of losers trying to outdo each other in how many different ways they can insult the other, and you have a server ready to be shut down.

Well i don't know how they do it in Aussie.....most American players never communicate in that game or any game at all unless they are in a competitive league.

Depends, if the other guys dont play as a team and do whatever they want. You ll never win. You have to assign goals and make small teams.

The whole teamwork part of the game is quite straightforward, actually. Just follow the green dots on the map. Those dots represent your squadmates. If you are an assault guy, toss down some ammo. If you're recon, throw motion mines and spot the enemy. If you are a medic, revive/heal your squadmates. If you are the engineer, repair your squad's vehicles/destroy enemy ones.

You don't need guys screaming at each via VOIP for that.

This is the absolute truth, you can always see people dropping health kits or ammo kits if you play on hardcore, medics won't revive you that often though, it doesn't need communication, really, and even if it had mics, it would be just like TF2 talk, just pure randomness.

Cool, thanks for the responses, everyone!

All of this says to me that the game is pretty much how I hoped it would be. Plenty of teamwork to go around, but not so hardcore that you're going to be left behind if you don't have a mic. I like the way it sounds. It still really irks me that they don't have a PC demo though. :x

Thanks again!

i agree with a lot of the others, its defiantly worth a play even if your friends are playing it , its easy enough to add friends (if you lucky enough to have the friends list work) but even if you don't, just favorite some decent servers and you will get players that work well as a team using the 'Q' button......enjoy it.

The game would get old quickly without friends, and you'd generally be useless playing by yourself. Unless you just play squad death-match all the time, in which case the game would get boring even faster.

I wish I could say I'm enjoying it more. I'm only getting started in online multiplayer gaming on PC, and I totally suck at it. I get kills every once and a while, but I just get killed mostly.

Yea, but the problem is that sometimes you get stuck in a real crappy or annoying team that TK's everyone very often. Other than that, it's definitely worth playing by yourself. None of my friends are playing the game but I'm usually a regular on a few servers, so it's still good.

Not the truth at all. The game is a lot of fun laying with strangers and you can be extremely useful.

I did enjoy the multiplayer of Crysis, though. I sucked at it too, but I enjoyed it more because the maps didn't seem to be as large, and you didn't have to wait very long to find somebody to shoot at. I'm probably a little better at it than BC 2 multiplayer.

Yeah, the thought had crossed my mind as well. Maybe I should have posted a new thread on it. I think I will.
