Hi, I am definately feeling the need for class-based online shooter. TF2 is great, I still play it, but I need something different.

I loved BF2 and BF2142 and, to an extent, BF: Vietnam...how does Bad Company 2 compare to those?

Is the beta a good representation of the finished game we will be getting within the next month?
Will our stats carry over into the final product as well?

Thanks a bunch, Ive been debating between AvP and BF:BC2

It's alright but It's kind of a waste getting it this early. Once you played the only map for a while it gets really boring. I'd just wait till it actually comes out if your a bit short on cash. I played the beta for a few days but i got bored and moved onto other games till it actually comes out.

I've found it a lot of fun. Much better if you play with friends, which is difficult in the beta because the inclusion of a functional friends system is not provided. However, it is possible (with some difficulty) to join the same server, then team, squad, and lock squad. I do this all the time with a friend. This game is much better with friends. However, I play hardcore mode only now, as I believe it is WAY better.

I've had amazing fun with the beta, however, I am cheap and gonna wait for it to go 50% off 1-2 months after release.... So far Steam has not been scared to put these amazing sales on newly-released games, which is awesome for people with a wee bit more patience! =D

It is spoiling, but why not take advantage of it? I know I sure do. No real reason not to, they do the sale's for a reason.

Its hard to judge how it will compare to the classic Battlefield games because the only map/gametype that is present in the beta forces you to fight in a small area, making it much more fast-paced and frantic than anything in the previous battlefield games.

I personally think that, judging from the beta, the full version will be well worth purchasing - the game captures the feel of being on a battlefield like no other game, the sound is what does it i think. The destructible environments also add a whole new layer to the tactics you will use.

The classes aren't clearly defined like they are in TF2, or even BF 2 for that matter, all the classes have been blobbed into 4 - Medic, who also serve as a the heavy gunners, Assault, who have the ammo crates, Engineer also are anti-tank, Recon is pretty much the same though.

Lots of unlocks, and i've heard your level/unlocks from the beta will carry over into the full version.

i'd get it, i already had a lot of fun with the beta even though i just reached level 5. i preordered it 3 days after the preorder was available. the retail game will look better because dx11 isn't in the beta.

BC2 beta is definitely better than the AvP demo. I'd suggest waiting for the retail version of both before deciding. Although, BC2 is looking to have a larger, more dedicated player base than AvP.

It is a fun game definitely but the beta should've given us a few more other maps to play. Playing the same map and the same mode gets a little boring. I will be getting it but the beta has a few optimization tweaks that are needed, ok maybe a lot but I trust DICE!

haha I bought it about three hours ago and tried the beta...you are exactly right about that. The beta map is by far one of the most crowded maps I have ever played on.

Its fun and hectic, and best of all...challenging. My multiplayer skills are a bit rusty, too, after years of WoW and playing engie in TF2 (a relaxed, defensive class). This is exactly the game I have been looking forward too...challenging, yet not frustrating.

I agree, the sound is simply breathtaking. The level design is amazing as well, in terms of the small details. Hearing distant gunshots, then crawling over a ridge only to see the two guys ahead of you get blown apart by RPG and machine gun fire.

That, my friends, is what we call immersion

It's up to the publishers - has Dragon Age or ME2 gone on some truly insane sale? Or did BF2, once they added it to Steam? I'm expecting a bit more of a Call of Duty pricing pattern with BFBC2, where it stays at full price for months and months. :(

heres the scoop bro, its not a pc game, its a port st8 up. it has console written all over it which i do not like. graphics are ok i guess but compared to bf2 gameplay wiseits almost a completely different game. I would recomend you dl the latest Project Reality .9 mod and give that a go, that is seriously epic war stuff, and it will hold you over until bf3 ahah

Machine guns are very effective when you're not moving. You have to spray a little bit, spend at least half a clip in a single guy.

Shooting in short bursts is the key. Also try to stay still and crouch to make it even more accurate.

Is it still team play based? as in squads? Because most of those every man for himself shooters have begun to be worse and worse, with some exceptions. And a lazy question, does the commander function (Artillery, UAV, Supply drop, etc.) Remain?

Honestly they make more money on the Steam deals I would think. Yeah they take a cut in the price of the game, but they sell tons more. So I think it works out better in the end.

its true, and not being on a console they can do it and makes tons of cash. If it were on console, this just wouldn't work. I think consoles will die eventually, the gamestops, gameflys and blockbusters of the world make it hard to make money without releasing a call of duty or guitar hero game.

BF BC2 is still a team game , even bigger than bf2 imo : i remember 1 round we were on harbor 3rd of 4 stages on that map and on defender team was just awsome coop , they managed to rape our 90~ supplie and we havent even planted or destroyed single charged ... there is squads , there is no commander , but we still have uav in full game we could see more :) uav1 is player controlled , wich is freakin awsome thing , you can mark enemy with Q (orange triangle appears on theyr head and every1 can see them , you can even do that on foot ) also you can send coordinates for missile shot :) overall the game is epic shooter , just hope the bugs to be fixed on release ... and taht clunky movement issue

There are squads but no commander. In the beta there isn't any supply drops, though the Assault & Medic classes have the ammo/health supplies. The UAV is controlled by the player (no longer flies around automatically) and can be used by anyone similar to any of the other vehicles. It is more useful but not overpowered. The Recon class is capable of calling in mortar strikes once you've unlocked that ability. And the "Hardcore" mode is a lot of fun and a little more challenging.

Daytona_178

Mass Effect 2 wasn't a port really...but ME was and the PC version was massively better than the console version. Given, they had to wait a year to get it out, but that was a wait well worth it. The game ran so much smoother and the loading times were significantly reduced. Playing both versions really was one of the things that got me back into PC gaming, I realized how much of a technical edge PC has over consoles.

Does the Hardcore mode make guns more powerful? I haven't gotten into a hardcore game, I'll search for one now.rmfd341

The differences in Hardcore are:

  1. Guns are more powerful, though weaker guns (i.e. pistols) will still take a few shots to kill unless its a headshot.
  2. Only way to ragain health is a health kit from a medic.
  3. There are no crosshairs when shooting from the hip. To aim accurately you have to aim down the sights.
  4. There are no aiming reticles in vehicles, mounted weapons, or UAV (UAV still has the reticle when calling in guided missile). You have to aim based off of location of previous shots.
  5. Respawn time has increased.
  6. There is no mini map in the HUD. You have to look at the scores in order to view the mini map. Therefore spotting enemies (Q) isn't so easy anymore.
  7. Your HUD no longer displays the amount of ammo you have. You have pay attention to how many shots you've taken or just guess like I do. The reload message still pops up when you get low on ammo in the current clip.

There could be some more differences that I haven't noticed yet. All in all, it is fairly balanced as far as difficulty is concerned. I like it better. No more hitting someone several times w/o them dying.

1. Sounds good 2. How it should be 3. That's fine 4. That's really, really stupid 5. Kinda lame 6. Spotting is an intricate part of the BF series and shouldn't be removed in any mode. They should have kept the mini-map and just gotten rid of the orange triangles. 7. They should have kept the magazine system, otherwise you just reload whenever you want. Should have added a visual check of ammo as well. 4 and 6 are why I won't play hardcore. Otherwise it sounds fun.

that sounds right up my alley.

I enjoy the beta immensely, but its frustrating to have to use almost a whole clip to kill someone lol.
