Its a bit scary, not much after the first 15 minutes however.
One of the big issues I have with the game is that you can hear everything before it comes at you. While I appreciate the dialogue and it adds to the atmosphere, it makes the game really easy when you can already hear where your targets are. You can literally follow their voices, stay behind a wall, pop out from behind and shock em, then bash or shoot em.
So no, its not really scary in a "boo!" sense of the word, but its very eery.
You're afraid of videogames? What a baby.
I suggest you get over you're silly fears - you'll miss out on alot of good games. That is all.

Oh, and to the topic creator, buckle up when you enter the Medical Pavilion, you'll know which part I'm referring to when you get to it.firefly026the freezer freaked the living daylights out of me. UI havent jumped like that since Aliean Vs Predator.

Don't mind people like that;). They are just little NOOBS!!!
There are parts of that game that disturbed me (not scared, but disturbed) more than any other game (except maybe System Shock 2, its spiritual predecessor). There are definitely some themes that are really really awful, not jump out and startle you awful, but the "how could anybody ever do this to themselves or others" awful. If you get queasy about dead bodies, mutilation, mutation, insanity, child abuse, or unsavory science - Bioshock is not the game for you.
Now, I loved the game. I am very jaded when it comes to horror (big Lovecraft fan, played System Shock 2 through like 6 times). But more sensitive souls will be rather bothered by Bioshock.
And yeah, the Medical Pavilion is terrible, and it is the first real level of the game. If you get through that, then you should be good to go.
Bitobah
no.
i'm a huge shock 2 fan, and i was frankly expecting another horror masterpiece - bioshock utterly failed to deliver on that front
there's a few creepy moments, and you might find fort frolic horrific, but hardly scary
you should definitely check the game out though, it's not quite as good as i was expecting, but it's still pretty fantastic
Nah I don't think its too scary, I think there was probably one time that I jumped out of my seat so far.
Of course it is pretty scary when your low on health and ammo and getting chased by a Big Daddy.
THGarrett
yeah, till you die and respawn at a vita-chamber with half health, no penalty and the big daddy has de-aggrod with exactly the same health he had before you died, and isn't regenerating
what were they thinking? oh yeah, i remember - $$$$$$

You would be surprised how many people are. When watching a movie you know you can just shut ur eyes and it will be over in a few seconds, with a game YOU have to physically move your character along to get rid of the scaryness. Also i think your an idiot for being so arragont seeing as your only level 8 here is a tip, try not to upset people on gamespot.

Yea I agree, that really does kill the tension in the game.

They were thinking about $$$$, yes, but also they were thinking "how can we make this more accessable for console players."
Once again, a decent game (that should have been great) gets shafted. Poor Bioshock...I feel like its got a good soul, but its just so bad. Kinda like your friend you grew up with during school but is now a drug addict.
Bioshock is scary as hell imo. But all depends on your setup... I'm playing on a 100'' screen with 1500 watts audio setup so it adds to the feeling ya know >_>.CubePrime_basic
100 "!!!!!!!!holy cow.
but is it as scary as f.e.a.r? i physically couldnt carry on playing f.e.a.r. i was too wrecked with (ironically) fear.
