It still has servers, It's one of the better CoDs. Treyarch was pretty awesome till Black Ops. (Actual support, all three map packs free, and the game actually ran for most people on launch!)
I actually found the campaign in WaW to be better than MW's (well, except for the stealth suit mission), though it was still a respawn-infected, scripted mess

Most of them are pirated servers, "original" WaW is lucky to get 3 full servers.
There's still people playing. It's quite great online, biggest maps of any CoD game, and I love the War game mode. Tons of fun on PC with extra players. At peak hours you shouldn't have an issue finding a game.

Launch but the actual state of the game is perfect and no, W@W was horrible, took the CoD flaws to a new limit, maps looked big in singleplayer but they were really small and limited and you could get stuck in pebbles, yes pebbles, not rocks, frequently, shooting was pretty mediocre (DoD: S does it much, much better) and for the love of God, CoD "had" problems with enemies spawing where you can see the actual spawning, but spawning right in your face or behind you? horrible. Multiplayer was also garbage because of the shooting, maps were decent tho and the zombie mode was pretty fun. I was talking about UO not being as good as CoD, IW was untouchable at that time, decent as a shooter but far from CoD and CoD 2.

Yes people are still playing it, though not a ton its not too hard to find a server that stays pretty active at least for me. Once you find one you pretty much stick with it. I still think it's one of the best Call of duty's online for sure.

The pinnacle of CoD's quality was CoD4. Since then we have seen a steep declination in quality and we now have "games" like MW2 and Blops, which are universally known as the games that are somehow worse than CoD3.
