When the newest games like Crysis 2 and Portal 2 all but bypass the last two dx upgrades ( d10, d11 ) , you have to wonder if any new dx feature will be as widely used and supported as D9. Why cant things ever move forward? Companies have made these super graphic cards but they are not being utilized at all.

Probably because of lazy dev work. I remember the shift from dx7 to 8 and to 9. It was pretty substantial. When a game launched then you didn't wanna play it any less than dx9. Now we have 10 and 11 and it sucks no one utilizes them.

these days it's all on the consoles, which use 2004 hardware. Expect DX11 and 12 to kick into high gear after BF3 at the earliest, or more realistically, after the next gen consoles arrive

Once the next consoles hit in the next few years, DX11 will be the minimum. A sweet time that will be!

Shogun 2 Total War and Crysis 2 were released without DX 11 support and only were announced to receive a patch later on.

Many gamers are still using Windows XP, therefore DX 9. Therefore, companies are trying to capitalise on all the consumers. Another reason of course as mentioned is consoles. I would assume that programming and making a game for DX 9, 10, 11 and consoles (when its multiplatform) takes time and money. It would be easier if everyone was just using DX 11. The reason that everyone jumped from 7 to 8 and to 9 immediately is because they didnt have to buy new OS to benefit from the new direct x. I also assume that many gamers still use older computer which would not benefit as much from direct x 11.

Direct x 11 is starting to pick up. Battlefield 3 probably is gonna try to lead the way.

Pretty much this, we will have to make do with Dx9 till Microsoft brings out a new Xbox which utilises Dx11 and then we will be stuck with Dx11 for god knows how many years etc etc wash and repeat and all that jazz.

Wow, 22.7% of people are still on that garbage known as xp according to steam survey... Way to them holding back development

I wonder how many people have dx10+ hardware and are still on xp...

Thank God dx9 will probably die after this gen, dx12 maybe by next gen, wonder what it's gonna bring.

Well dx 9 was standard in 2003 when we didn't have this gen's consoles. This generation is a hell of a lot different and in a bad way for pc gamers.

When the next gen consoles hit, it will be great for pcs for a while. Untill DX11 gets outdated, but even then it will still look great haha.

I think so,

something is up with DX 10 and DX 11, very few devs seem to be using them, although there are GPU's galore, we need a dev to show what these versions of DX can really do. Some dev need to push the boundary like Crytek did, who will risk it?
