It's certainly more thrilling than 1 and 2, but I don't know, there's something off about it, at first it gives you the impression that it's a fantastic game, the best FEAR yet, but I just couldn't play past chapter one, it's more thrilling, but it doesn't feel like FEAR 1 and 2, it's not the same "shooter". FEAR 1 and 2 were strictly corridor shooters that the AI made fun to play, but FEAR 2 changes the AI, it's not bad, but not great either, instead it focuses more on actually being a horror game.
It's a decent game, but get it when the price drops or it's on sale. The single player is extremely short, and the story is probably the worst of the FEAR titles. Certain parts don't make sense, and it felt rushed. The multiplayer, for its modes, it actually pretty good. However (don't know if it's been patched yet), there's a major bug where it makes it pretty hard to join games, and when I tried it seemed that there weren't many people on.
No, not at all, its single-handedly the worst FPS I've played this year. Just everything from the dull gameplay to the horrible story brings it down badly into "oh great, yet another generic FPS, yawwnnnn" territory for me. But that's just what I personally thought of it, you could still try it out later when its cheap (who knows, you might just enjoy the heck out of it, I know quite a few people who sure did)
If we just treat it as its own game rather than as a continuation of the FEAR series then we can immediately note it has very strong gunplay, very strong gameplay, and solid multiplayer. It's like getting two games together almost considering both the single player and multiplayer are quite good, although it's more of a shooter with horror elements than like FEAR 2 which was a horror game with shooter elements, but I think this is good for people that generally prefer shooter games. The sound direction and animations are also quite good, it feels very satisfying clearing out a room full of enemies.
