so i wanna do a clean new install on a emtpy hard drive

i already have a 300 gb hdd with win vista and a ton of stupid viruses on it.

is it alright if i boot up Ubuntu or backtrack or some type of linux via flash drive and just delete everything in that hard drive?

just stick the disc in the drive and start a clean install, it will format the drive to prepare it for the OS itself

Formatting the drive is one of the options when you install Windows. No need to boot from another OS.

i believe with winows 7 you stick in the disk and do a "custom install" and that should format the hard drive and then install windows

lol dude... you are making this way more complicated than it actually is!!! Just stick the windows 7 disc in the drive and boot up your computer... that's it! Then just follow the instructions on screen. I suggest you back up any files you want to keep before installing your new windows.

I have to agree with everyone else, you are making way too much of this, just stick the disc in the bloomin drive and get on with it! lol Like I said in my first responce windows will format the drive before installation for you there is no need to make it complicated by using other programs to do it!
