Is going from 4GB DDR3 SDRAM to 6GB worth a price increase of $265?

I'm trying to select some options for my new laptop, but I don't know if the price is worth the performance increase. I will be using the laptop to run CS4 and I'll probably be running two CS4 programs at a time.

Any help is appreciated.

Could you at least post the specs of your laptop?

most laptop mobos cant take more the n4gb, so this is kinda new, but horiblly over priced. i am sure there will be otehr bottlenecks in the system to make the 4gb-6gb diference very small. 6gb dddr3 desktop ram in australia can be had for $159 down at my local computer store....so that much for laptop ram sounds crazy if that price is the DIFFERENCE and not the total price.

personaly i would not do it, and my PC gets used for everything u meantioned, plus more.

for photoshop work you might see a noticible increase from 4gb to 6gb but for games you will not

Not worth it, you won't see a noticeable difference.

This is all that's included in the package. Unfortunately I can't not select the software that's included with the price. Also, I read somewhere that if I wanted to play game the video card this comes with isn't that good. Is that true?

It would be great to pay for the 4GB and still be able to run something like After Effects and something else at the same time. I have yet to buy the CS4 master collection (will be doing that tomorrow) so I have no idea how handy that extra 2GB would be.

The biggest bottleneck in your system is your dual core processor. Even if you add googles of RAM, your CPU will still bottleneck it. It's a pity that your GPU is ATI since nVidia procs have CUDA capabilities which removes the processing bottleneck and allows for easy use of the Adobe Productivity series with just 4 gb of RAM (my laptop)

I see. It doesn't seem like I can change the video card for something else, but I have another option on the processor. Don't know if it would be any better or worse. It's the Intel ® Core ™ i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache).

I suppose it would help, but aren't laptop procs super expensive? I don't think the tradeoff is worth it. I would say investing in a desktop would be a better way to go. It doesn't even have to be big, you can get a decent sized case and throw in some components.

If you're committed to getting the laptop for CS4 work, you'll probably want to max it out any way you can - get the 6GB and the i7.

Actually, that setup is about $500 less than the one with the other processor since the package has some software out and the 4GB ram instead of the 6GB. I do have a desktop, but I need a laptop for school because all the comps in the graphic design department (macs) are now gone. So I have been scrambling for the past few days trying to figure out what I should buy that could run the Adobe CS4 master collection at a reasonable price.

The other package I posted would be $1,757. This one with the 4GB RAM comes out to $1,299.

Macs operate Adobe suite the same as a cheap PC and sometimes worse. Photoshop hardly runs buttery smooth on a Mac.

And I jus built a Studio 15 with the higher end Core i7 proc and it totals out to only $1394 The only difference is that the grpahics is mildly weaker, but like it matters since it doesn't have CUDA.

Yeah, I'm on a budget and I figured what I'm getting for the $1300 price is pretty good. Now I just need to figure out if my old PC can run CS4. Thanks for all the help.
