I have 9800 gtx+ and 4gb ram... and it doesnt play that well, it got to be the fact that i got a dual core when people with a quad core say it perfoms fine.

So if you dont have a quad core dont buy it for pc.

Don't get me wrong, I usually prefer to play games on PC. But with known performance issues due to being such a rushed/lackluster port, and with the 360 getting exclusive DLC, I would go with the 360 version.

Also on a side note, GTA4 is a good game, but the reviews got a bit carried away. Temper your expectations and you won't be disappointed.

most of the performance issues are because people just don't have the hardware to play the game, it pretty much needs a quad@2.4+ (q6600) in order to keep frames ubove 30, which sucks because i still have an e8400 lol, but i know what the issue is so i don't complain if my game drops in frames and gets a little choppy....

anyway, i do agree that you should probably get the 360 version with the DLC, inless u have a pretty good cpu, graphics cards don't play to much of a roll with gta iv except for the Vram. In other words, you can max gta iv with your 9800gtx+ if u have a good enough cpu

I realize it more or less requires a quad core, but that to me indicates it's a really poorly optimized port, as the CPUs in the 360 and PS3 are actually rather weak by today's standards. Cell and Xenon are more comparable to a Pentium 4 HT or Athlon 64 in terms of performance, A Core 2 or i7 absolutely mops the floor with them.

Wow, people do indeed overreact over the game performance, it performs fine, hell it even did in my friend's laptop with a 9600gt.

So to get a game running smooth that has 360 graphics you need a quad core and a video card that's about 3x as powerful as a 360. Wow, talk about a lousy port.

A quad-core would set you straight. A cheap one even. That with your 9800GTX and the RAM I assume to have that can support both CPU and GPU, then you'll have an awesome experience on the PC version.

I don't get why people still say that it has performance issues. It requires more than the average game, but for a very good reason. The PC version's graphical options, if you can put them on just medium/high settings with the sliders at 50, then it'll look almost 3X better than both the 360 and PS3 version. Better traffic, better car detail, better textures, resolution, view/detail distance, shadow filtering, and the exclusive PC video editor. If you ask me, that's a damn good deal.

However if you don't care for the extra features and video editor, then the 360 version is your best bet for the exclusive DLC.

I played the game on launch day on a Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0 GHz, 4GB RAM, 9800GTX+. It ran fine, 30 fps outdoor environments (25 with heavy action), 50 fps indoor. Not only does the PC version look and control much better, it also has the video editor and Independence FM. Pure win.

Graphics are "way better" than the 360/PS 3 version. If you would want to play the game at comparable graphics then you can easily play it on an 8600GT, 2gb of RAM and an E8400 or something similar, but nope people complain because they want to max it up, to use the highest textures possible, when their graphics card clearly can't handle those settings, because of VRAM not the GPU itself.

The 360 version is the PC version on medium, I'm patched up with a Q6600 and GTX295 and haven't had a single crash, and it looks stunning.

Look about for tweaks, there is one about the reflections and upscaling..can't remember now but gives a nice boost in fps.I was running it smooth on an E7200 and gtx 260 maxed except view distance which was around 3/4 at 1920x0180.I don't think you can unlock max textures yet...but yeah.patches and tweaks help alot, too bad i didn't like the game.Looks ALOT better than console, didn't like the shadows though.

I'm playing the game on a Q6600 quad core running at 3.0GHz and a GTX 260 Core 216 and as the patches came the games performance got better and better, hell even the pre-configured graphics settings increased (textures on HIGH now when they were on MED before). The game runs perfectly fine on any reasonable PC IMO.

that is it precisely, time after time since it was released you see people on this board complaining they cant run it on high settings when their hardware just isnt good enough, seemingly unaware that even on low settings it can look and perform better than the console versions.

i was running it on an 8800gtx (admittedly also a quad core and 4Gb RAM) and i didnt have a single issue with performance and it looked in a different league to my 360 version. now i have a gtx 295 and despite only recognising 1 half of the card's memory it performs unbelievably

I don't know if I got really lucky or if I just have lower standards in what's acceptable framerate, but I run GTA 4 on Medium textures, everything else maxed, view distance 30 and 100% traffic, 1600x1200 and it works quite fine. And this is on my 2.4 Dual Core and 8800 GTS.

quad core helps aswell but a fast dual core will do the job...a quad is definetly not *needed* to play the game at high settings smoothly in the slightest.Mind you my E7200 is at 4ghz so i don't know how a 3ghz dual core would hold up.

it does to me, doesnt look all that great or run all that smooth on 360, plus its at 1280*720
