i think gabe newall said they should have called the epesodes half life 3 episode 1 - 3 - and 3 respectively. but thats beside the point.

i was worried that epesode 3 would be the last half life game. but remember. it is half life, its extremely unlikely - i think - that their wont be a fourth. im confident that its popularity will carry it on.

we will have a better idea upon completion of epesode 3 as to weather the story ends or wether its obvious that theirs more to be told. but i think it unlikely it will end their

As a angry Half Life fan all I can say is that I hate what they have done and who ever made the decision to make episodic content over a full game should be fired then shot.

Ontopic:

Im not sure if there will be a HL3 but these episodes are named under HL2 so let the speculating begin.

i agree. but it makes more $$$ sense.plus as much as i love hl2 it had a lot of pacing issues. but i heard the episodes are really small like 9 hours tops,so il wait until all the episodes are out.most people i know who have played the games say they burn through them too quickly and your left aching for more.

btw no one clearly specified if their will be a hl3! has valve anounced that ep.3 is the last?

Yeah the episodes are really quick if your better than the average gamer... it took me 2 hours to complete episode 2 :|

I dont think valve has said its the last Halflife titled game ever but it is the last episode in the series of HL2 episodes.

Last I heard Episode 3 will only end the HL2 story arc, however it will not be the last Half-Life game ever.

Episode 3 is the last in the episodes. Gabe Newell said that the episodes together are HL3. But I doubt episode 3 will be the last HL game.

Really? I think you are be exagerating a little. The average time of completion of episode 2 is 6h 38m. And the quickest was just over 2h 30m. Look at the stats here: http://www.steampowered.com/status/ep2/ep2_stats.php

So I think 3-4h would be more realistic.

What I read that was Episode 3 will end Gordan Freeman's story. There is plenty more to Half Life than just what happened to Freeman, so we can almost definitely expect to see more games set in the Half Life universe... just not necessarily following on from Episode 3, and not necessarily starring Freeman.

what'll probably happen in the end is that they'll either save the planet from the Combine or you see a massive invasion fleet and then the G-man appears and takes Freeman away ala HL1.

I havn't played any of the episodes yet.. wasn't impressed with the move to episodic content.. but then i wasn't impressed with how they forced people to have a connection to the internet to validate their game, spend hours downloading updates for steam as well as the game they just bought before FINALLY being able to actually play the game. Of course that was when i only had a 56K modem..

I'll end up getting the orange box probably, i want to check out TF2 and Portal.. although knowing them they'll release all the episodes in a pack together.. although who knows if it will come with TF2 and Portal or not.. i don't get why they added HL2 to the orange box.. sure its good to have the extra game.. which we all already had.. but what about those that want CS: Source too? If they don't have a credit card etc then they can't get it since you can only get it with the HL2 game or off steam.

Episode 3 will be the last episode for Half Life 2.

As for the franchise, they might go for a third installment since they already made a name for the game.

I hope you don't wanna kill me after this, but I actually like the episodic style.

What I don't like, is that Valve spends months to give us few hours to play, what are those guys paid for? They have the engine ready, they should have story ready (I really hope thay aren't making it up as they go), but still it takes them ages to make new episode.

Valve should go visit Telltale Games and learn from them how to make episodic game. Sam'n'Max episodes come out monthly, not every two years.

I also read that Episode 3 would finish Freeman's story, and that they would be concentrating on a different part of the Half-Life universe for Half-Life 3.

Episode 2 was AMAIZNG the best source engine HL game to date and with all the new stuff probably going into Episode 3 like the Portal gun then I hope its even better.

I imagine Valve spend their time making the level design, set-pieces and general experience awesome. Having a sub-standed FPS that comes out every month is stupid. I don't want the HL series to be like that so I'm happy to wait a year or so. And in the mean time I've got plenty of games to play.

Each level probably takes a few months from concept through building and play-testing to ensure it runs well. They also have to script all the behaviours of the characters and events. Then they have to play-test the whole thing through to ensure it is balanced for the end gamer, and not too difficult or too easy. If they introduce new monsters/characters, they have to be modelled, textured and animated as well. While all that is going on the dialogue has to be recorded.

All of that takes time. In my view the HL2 Episodes are a lot more complicated to make than Sam'n'Max.

exactly my sentiment. i love companies like valve and blizzard that spend years perfecting games to make sure that the final product is great. i'd rather play 1 awesome game a year than play 12 mediocre games every month. and the reason why waiting for valve to release their products is so excruciatingly difficult is because their games are so awesome. i mean, as good as sam & max series may be (not counting the original), i doubt many people get that excited and impatient waiting for the next epsiode to be released.

I know Gabe said that they will stop the episodic approach after Ep 3, but I don't think it's the end of Half-Life. I personally can't wait to play the story of Adrian Shepard (guy from Half-Life Opposing Force) who was also telleported by the Gman. Also there was Blue Shift where you played with Barney Calhoun so yet another story line they can use (althogh I felt Blue Shift story was weaker then the other 2)

There is going to be more as some have pointed out. But in reality we won't see a HL3 for a very long time. You can quote me on that. I like your avatar btw - do yourself a favour and try the first two episodes as soon as you can. They are so great.

According to many sources episode three will notbe the last half life game, but I have yet to see any "episodes" that can match up to what you can expect for a sequel for Half-Life 2:?. Valve really has to pull themselves together before they make a Half-Life 3.

But Half-Life Fans should rejoice that there will be more after episode 3 :D :)
