is HALF-LIFE 2 the GREATEST PC GAME of ALL time?

Best PC game ever? No. Best PC fps? Possibly.

It's all in the eyes of the beholder though. I dont think it is, but I'm sure there are those who'd disagree.

well if it was released when they said they would do it i guess it be a great game of its time, but there are better games with better graphics now like eg fear quake 4 ect

unreal tournament 99 was game of the year for its time it was da bomb. loved it

max payne 2 i say was the best action 3rd person shooter for its day the rag doll and story linewas so great

oblivion had to be the best first person rpg around last year

but i say as the years so by it takes better games with stuff that will blow us away to claim that best game of its time title

anyway half life 2 is good but its graphics is dated

i totally agree with "madman" here.

it might be the best fps ever, but any comparison to other genre-games would be somewhat pointless.

The day a First Person shooter becomes best game of all time for PC is the day I quit it.. I am sorry shooters are great, but all distinctly lack depth and it scares me thats ALL some people play at times.. sSubZerOo

Could, somebody please explain to me, what all the fuss, is about over this game?

I, played through it twice and although, the ending was great, the rest of the game, left alot, in my eyes, to be desired.

Would, anyone, be so kind, as to perhaps, shed any light, on what i have been missing?

Apart, from the ending, the only other section, that really caught my attention, was the highspeed chase, boat segment, where the chopper was dropping mines.

The graphics, and animation, in the game were good, but, i feel the gameplay was lacking, especially, compared to HL1. So, why, HL2, receives such acclaim, is beyond me.

Of course not, you're not even close, there are tons of games that are better than HL2, it's not even the best FPS. The best PC game IMHO is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the best FPS IMHO is Call of Duty, Best game ever = Metal Gear Solid.

HL2 has depth, sure, for an FPS game, but compare it to say an RPG, TBS, and in some cases even an RTS and it just can't compare.

Half Life 2 was alright but, in my opinion, was nothing compared to the original.

its a classic worthy of anyones time. im not really a big FPS fan myself but HL and HL2 are the exception. love those games.

best game ever? imho no. that title remains with Deus ex 1 on PC.

IMO it is impossible to define the greatest game ever because it all comes down to opinion.

In my eyes it is the greatest game ever, but that is just my opinion.

People are comparing certain aspects to certain genres, like depth, where obviously a different genre would be far superior (RPGs in the case of depth) but these people aren't describing how half life 2 is superior in terms of offering amazing cinematic thrills and fast paced gameplay. You cannot base your arguments about the merits of a game on one aspect of games in general such as depth or graphics.

If I had to pick between HL1 or HL2 though I'd pick Half Life 1. It had too great of an impact on the FPS genre to be ignored. Although much of it's success had to do with Counterstrike, a player-created mod, so it could be argued that Valve's game itself didn't have as much of an impact as it's given credit for, and that the success of the Half Life series isn't exactly a result of the game's quality.

Best game ever = Metal Gear Solid.
