What does the complexity of replacing them have to do with which one you should get?

its easier to just save alittle extra and get what you want the first time. But to answer you it takes alittle more effort to unhook heatsink and replace cpu than it does pop out a video card.

A GPU is definitely much easier to replace than a CPU. With a CPU you have to first uninstall the heatsink, clean off the TIM (or at least you should), and the switch the CPUs, before applying some new TIM and reinstalling the heatsink. With the GPU you just unplug it from the PSU, unscrew the brackets, pull it out, and reverse the process for the new card. But that's not what you should base your upgrade on. What are your current specs? And also, you aware that moving to Sandy Bridge is going to require you to also buy a new motherboard and possibly even new RAM as well, right? CPU upgrades are often the most expensive upgrades you can do since if you change sockets it practically requires replacing the entire computer.

also its cheaper to get your parts off of craigs list. You can find core i5 2500k, core i7 2600k for $50 below retail value AND you avoid gay taxes

core i5 2500k for $200 everything brand new in box

you just have to be able to deal locally and meet up with the right people. Plus you could even try haggeling the prices.
