...or is DDR2 800mhz and any processor at or above an athlon x2 6000+ still awesome for every game out there? I'm still running on 4GB of this RAM in one of my rigs and it's still blowing through everything. Why pay so much more for DDR3? I feel jipped for buying a quad-core. Twice :(.

I don't want to switch to DDR3 either, I have so many devices that support ddr2... About 8 mobos.

Yeah I've really found no reason to upgrade in the past few years, and I never really upgrade. Just save a bit more and build a new rig :P

Yeah, pretty much. I had an X2 6400+ before I got my X4 965 and let's just say that games still ran pretty good but it was still a bottleneck to my HD4890 so I upgraded.

I just bougth new stuff for a new rig but haven't put it together yet. Can't play some of the new games on my old rig so it's adios! I did buy a mobo that handles DDR3 and 4g ram DDR3 1333mhz dual channel. My gpu is an nvidia 9800gt and a AMD dual core 3.1. I was sure that everything was compatible, now you guys got me wondering. I usually don't upgrade either, just wait till tax return for new one. These parts look compatible to you?

As long as your mobo has the correct socket for your cpu and supports your ram you should be fine.

My computer (signature) is still amazing. I can play all games in existence except for maybe Crysis and Crysis Warhead on highest settings. I play Dragon Age, Bioshock 2, Just Cause 2, Mass Effect 2 and many other new games on the highest settings possible, though I must decrease anti-aliasing and sometimes shadows. But I run Just Cause 2 on the highest settings possible without any lag, amazing! Don't think I'll upgrade in a couple of years :D My graphics card is amazing I must say, ATI FOREVER!

When your ram requirements are for multiple pcs, it gets expensive, and 80$ isn't cheap, I could buy a 360 with 30$ more. (Refurb'd)

I play at 1280x1024, so it doesn't take much to max out games. I still play with a amd 5000+ OCed to 3.0ghz 4 gigs of DDR2 ram, and a stock 4850. I'm thinking of upgrading my mobo, cpu and ram when the next line of AMD or Intel CPUs launches.

80$ is extremely cheap, I remember paying 300+$ for 2GB 4 or 5 years ago.

RAM prices nose dived a few years ago, but now they're picking up again. 4 gigs of DDR3 1600 will cost about $100.

Except ram requirements go up, not down.
