Is it just me, or does it seem like there is more hype surrounding Rome II?

I don't know if this is something that has followed every game, but I feel like there is more of a build up to this one. The last Total War game that I have played is Medieval 2 Total war and I was introduced to the series through Rome. I never cared much for Empire or Shogun 2 Total War, but I am incredibly excited about Rome 2. Maybe it's me being more attentive to the game that I'm suddenly seeing a lot on it, but then again, I can't remember as much attention being paid to the others. (And by attention, I mean screenshots being released and such.) Anyone else getting this feeling or is it me? While we're on the subject, how many of you are anticipating this game?

Seems about the same level of hype and interest as any other full fledged Total War title. You are probably just following this one closer than the previous ones. If you havent played a Total War game since Medival 2, you are definitely in for a lot of upgrades come Rome II.

IMHO. I think they're just getting worse.

How so? Shogun 2 was excellent, the lack of unit diversity let it down but that was the only 'flaw'.  I'm not a huge fan of Empire & Napolean either, but I can understand why they're loved, I just prefer swords & bows to muskets. How come you think they're getting worse?

Agree, Napoleon, Shogun, rome 1, medieval 2 all had serious advertising and hype behind them from what I remember.

Probably the same amount of hype as usual, since Total War is a popular game as it is. I never played the first Rome game, but hear a lot of people thought it is the best of the Total War series. Plus people have been begging for another one for years since I started playing Total War games back when Medieval 2 came out.

Rome Total War is still my favorite of the series. But it was the first Total War game I played and just like MMORPGs, I think the Total War games are so similar in gameplay mechanics, once you play one, you've played the rest.

Maybe if they make an entire TV series based on the game like Rome: Total War had, they'll be getting close to the hype. TBH though I doubt they need to make much hype. Fans, like myself, will be excited for the game from the mention of one word and one number...Rome 2 :)

Now I need to go play more Shogun 2, I've not got my money's worth from it yet. Only 290 hours logged.

Rome 2 probably the most anticipated Total War game in a long time. And that's to be expected - graphically the game looks insane and the gameplay aspects sound promising as well.

I remember Total War: Empire having quite a bit of hype: Mainly because of the ship combat and more modern weapons. Empire is the only Total War game I have played, and I liked it a lot. I highly anticipate Rome II; probably the only game I will pay full price for this year.

Not at all, unit diversity is essential for me in games, and there was a massive lack of it in Shogun 2. So, IMO Shogun 2 was worse for that one reason.

Opinion is not fact.

That's true..and what do you mean upgrades? Cause if it's any better than the original rome, I am much more curious about it.

hahaha right!! When I heard about it, I was estatic! I have no idea how many hours I logged into the original, but before my first desktop (imagine playing rome on an integrated gpu on a pentium 4...I still shudder at the thought of its 64mb shared memory) crashed, it was the only game that I played for 2 years.

much better AI, much better pathfinding, units rotate in place rather than crisscross during 90+ angles, controls for fine movement (i.e. move forward/back/rotate only a few feet), unit animations that actually engage in combat rather than just wildly swing swords at a phantom target, campaign maps are no longer grid based, much greater variety in sieges, a skill tree for generals to mak them more diverse, naval combat, units with activated abilities, mounted units can unmount or remount in the middle of combat, archers/gunners are much smarter about not killing your own units (though you can manually order them to fire into the enemy even if casualties on your sides will be greater), ranged units will show you an arc of up to where can they fire, and more that im forgetting.

These are all alot of convenience improvements that they've added since Medieval 2 that are pretty much expected to be in Rome II in addition to whatever unique improvements it'll come with.

Honestly, this is one of the most stupid things I've ever heard.

How diverse can you get when you're focusing on a single nation-state? This wasn't a Total War game involving many countries. If it was maybe you'd have a leg to stand on.

Im really looking forward to Rome 2, the best strategy game series imo. leagues better than anything else, i've played before, and i've played em all :)

The vanilla games are decent and fun, but the mods opens up the game, for a long timer after the initial release.

A good example is EB mod for Rome, which is one of the best games/mods I have played in a long time, even though Rome is from 2004 :)

I would recommend Darth Mod, it improves the AI, and have massive amounts of bug fixes - get your mods at www.twcenter.net - for all games in the Total war series - each "published" mod, have good descriptions and often also screenshots etc.Â
