I was wondering if it was legal to install mod patches in games, for example, in the sims 3, there are patches that can remove the censorship, they can change the body type, the reactions, and all that, but to install them you kinda need to modify stuff a bit, is it legal???

No, it is not illegal. However, if you mess up your game the company who made it will not help you because you modified it.

Its a legal gray area that companies ignore. As long as the 'mod patch' doesnt do anything like disable copy protection schemes then they don't really care. For TS series they have encouraged modding in the past (and ignored the nudity mods) - that is part of the Sims series attraction (being able to change the game to be more interesting/fun/etc). If modding were illegal you wouldn't be able to find them as easy as you can now (though there would always be sources).

Valve even helps the modding community out by making mods of their games downloadable through steam.
