Hey guys. I have a Gatway FX pc with an intel core i7 processor running at 2.66. Is it possible to overclock it on this pc? I have heard that there are ways to do it even on pre-built pcs from companies like dell, gateway, and hp. How would i have to do it?galacta552What motherboard does it use?
OC'ing is done via BIOS this is why it's hard to OC a prebuilt since it likely have a restricted or looked bios.
IF it's a common Motherboard from a major make (like ASUS/Gigabyte/MSI/Foxconn .. .. .. ) chances are good you'll be able to flash it's bios to a standard version that is not restricted/locked.
FujitsuSiemens and DELL motherboards most likely have no chance of revival to full potential.
So what would you recommend? Purchasing a new motherboard?it's usually a bad idea to tinker with a name brand system, you have locks, and then unlockign them (usually not possible) and result in issues.

[QUOTE="wis3boi"]So what would you recommend? Purchasing a new motherboard? No, there is not a good enough reason to overclock your i7. Dont waste money on a new mobo when you cpu can still play every game available. Plus ur case might not support atx i know my old dell didnt so you might need a new case. Bottom line, keep ur stuff the same as it is now.it's usually a bad idea to tinker with a name brand system, you have locks, and then unlockign them (usually not possible) and result in issues.

Yes i can run all games but why not grab some extra frames in the ones that dont run as well as most?
