Is it really as cheap as they say?

I guess you can say that I have seen the light, but what I haven't seen is the CPU, GPU, motherboard, RAM, OS, power supply, hard drive, tower case and optical drives that all alledgedly amount to $500 . So can you fellas start pointing me the in the right direction?

Well I'm looking to spend over $500 anyways, I doubt $500 build (if there is such a thing.) would allow me to play upcoming games like Assasin's Creed in high settings. So I'm looking for a performance build but as economical as possible... n*ggas is broke. I'm sorry If I came off as kinda snarky.

Also, I found that Amazon is a good a place as any. Will the Intel Core i7-3770 hold up to today's standards? And possibly further down the line?

Ah my bad. I recommend $800, 500 isn't a good system only enough to beat laptops twice the price.

$100 win7 OS

$20 dvd drive

$50-100 case

$40 ram ddr3

$100 fx4100

$100 motherboard

$50-100 500w-800w psu

$100 hdd

hd7770 $130

rough estimate, newegg.com is the best place, tigerdirect & amazon are okay too but not as good.

Hey thanks man, this is really helpful, would you know if I would need an SSD for future games?

No, ssd is only good if you want to boot fast. Usually, with a good amount of ram, after the first game loads a file, the file will stay in the RAM using a cache system by the os which remembers which files you loads the more frequently and loads them before you wants to use them.

actually you can for about 500-550 play assassins creed 3

prior to the great HDD price spike of 2011 i could have shown you a 450 dollar gaming beast that could play batman AA & BFBC2 on high @ 720p

ask me and on que ill spill out a 3- 4 core hotrod made of crude iron that will waste a current-gen console

Check out Giant Bomb PC game forums. They got tons of threads with system builds as well.

many will say otherwise, but i really feel that you should wait a few years before you get an ssd when they become more popular and more in the direction of being a 'standard'.
