Definately worth it, infact had you made this topic about a week ago you could of got a new mini expansion for free "battlehorn castle". Oblivion for the PC is a must have if your into the genre and you like downloading and installing different mods that improve and add onto existing content!
I was bored as hell with 360 and PC vanilla (unmodded) Oblivion, but after a good 150 mods, it was amazingly awesome.
And after beating it 3 times legitimately, I went through again with console codes. It was hella fun to have a godly powerful character.
Even with mods Oblivion still sucks. Though I haven't tried the multiplayer mod which would give you some enemies that actually a challenge...D9-THC
If you want a challenge, turn up the difficulty slider ;) I just downloaded the mod Qarls Texture Pack III (2GB file - 4 GB extracted) and it makes the game look more next gen, the textures are in ahuge resolution! If you have a powerful PC (I'm running an AthlonX2 4200, 2GB ram, Radeon x1950 pro 512mb runs great) than I would recommend getting it for the pc, otherwise you're not going to notice much of a difference (Shivering Isle is great though) Natual water/weather is also a great Oblivion mod, there are tons of mods for short quests and such too.

Does this mod only change the textures in the environment or does it change the people as well? I think the environment looks great (with natural environment mod) but the people could look a bit better.
[QUOTE="Grantelicious"]You know you don't actually have to buy it on the PC lol.....

Unlike you, we actually want to support the industry.
No you caused the demise, buying crap games which makes publishers want to release more crap games.

Oblivion is worth it, because Bethesda released an amazingly well made design kit.

Can you mod it on the 360?
What are all these awesome mods? I was about to play through it for the first time vanilla. I was thinking of maybe doing some high-res textures, but that's it. You don't have to spell out every mod, but before I go digging up what 150 mods do, could someone give me a general idea. I don't want some uber-powerful cheater mod. I'm not sure I buy that the levelling system is broken and needs to be more like Morrowind (which did not have a GREAT levelling system IMO). Just curious which mods make it worthwhile.Srinivassa
The thing about the levelling system in oblivion is that its no different from morrowind....BUT the monsters you fight and items you find depend on your level. Meaning that to get uber gear, you needed to be a high level, which took the fun out of adventuring. In morrowind, if you could kill for it/find it, it was yours.
Some mods put this system back in.

It just changes the textures of the world. I thought the game looked great before too, but once I put the textures in, it's honestly like a new version. It makes everything normal mapped/bump mapped and at an extreme resolution. Bricks pop out, stones look like they are there, it's quite amazing. I'm still looking for a good mod that changes the people (faces, clothing, armour) they look alright, I agree that they could use some tweaking. If you want to see a small sample go to
http://elderscrolls.filefront.com/file/Qarls_texture_pack_3;83706
you can check on the screenshot and reviews, but Forts, Dungeons, and ruins all look amazing. I'm running about 25-40 fps outside/towns and 50-65 inside forts/ruins/dungeonswith my rig. Everything on Max except in towns I move the object & Item sliders to half (gives me a boost in fps)
Oblivion is a great game in its own right, and with mods its even better.
Just remember, play it as an FPS with RPG elements. If youre expecting some in-depth RPG, you will be disappointed. Play it like a fantasy-themed Deus Ex.

Qarls Texture Pack 3 is the best texture pack, but you need a monster PC for it. Other great graphic improvement mod is Natural Environments. I also use Improved Face Textures to improve the face textures :D
You really need Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul and Martigen's Monster Mod.
There's also a ton of other mods to get. That do more minor things like add one new armour set or tweak one minor gameplay isssue. Like Enchantment Restore, Better Letters and Lost Paladins of the Divines.
I also highly recommend the UI mod called BTmod. The original inventory feels really dumped down for consoles, but BTmod fixes it.
More here.

Thanks, I'll have to install the one's you recommend and see how I like it. I have played it a little, but I didn't get very far. It looked really good to me, but then again, I just got a brand new computer, so I can max out a lot of games I couldn't before. I think it can handle the texture pack. I'm going to try it!I have this on the 360 but find it boring and i don't want to spend Microsoft points on shiverling isles but would it be wqorth it getting on PC so i can use mods and get expansions?
