If I buy the retail version will it just provide me with a code for steam?

As far as I am aware if you buy the game from retail you will get a DVD with the game on it. However the game will have to be installed and activated via steam. This does not mean you will have to download the entire game via steam it just means that some key data will be exchanged between your computer and the steam servers to activate the game.
So the game will be tied to my steam account? So in the future even if i loose the disk i can just re-download it again? As far as I am aware if you buy the game from retail you will get a DVD with the game on it. I can't comment on whether you will be able to re-download a bought retail version of a steam game because I have never done it ;) . However I imagine if the game is tied to your account then there should be no reason why you can't just redownload it from steam if you lose the disc.

Good question, I'd like to know too. I have and as of today never lost or damaged a disk but you never know. I do like not having to have the disk in the drive for Steam related games. i think I'm getting spoiled.:)
Sorry, I dont mean to be rude or ungrateful....but are you 100% about that or are you taking an educated guess? It will be tied to your steam account and re-downloadable just like any other game on steam.

Awesome, thanks for that. Also thanks to charmingcharlie for your help :)To be honest I'm 9001% sure (over ninethousand!) Since I have bought lots of retail games and just activated them on steam without having to use the disc at all and a friend of mine actually bought just cause 2 retail, could succesfully download at my house.

I have a question? I purchased this game for my son (he's 13) he has a Steam account and loaded the game on his computer and of course it works fine. I like it too, and I want to install the game on my computer, but I cant! I should be able to, it's my game, I purchased it. The creators of Just Cause 2 should include an "offline" install so I can install the game on my computer while my son plays it online. I just dont think it's fair. Steam will loose allot of money from me. I have 3 kids who all have steam accounts, and I see it as a form of extortion! Steam just lost a huge $$$ customer!hommer1965Why are you letting a kid play an M rated game.
ohh and one thing I forgot to mention, I purchased this game from a local store, not online thru Steam. So I have the actual DVD.hommer1965
Ya I bought the DVD from Newegg when it was on sale but that doesn't change the fact that it is tied to Steam. That is my only beef about Steam also. I will always buy a game that is not natively tied to Steam on a disc so I can share it down the line but as with everything else "things they are a changing". I hate it that you can't share games anymore but I'm not giving up on games to spite myself and give up on Steam. There are too many games tied to Steam. I am also being dragged into the new century and will download more games now because there is really no advantage in buying the disc. Sucks though.:(

I dont know about you, but i think the ratings are dumb, i dealt with real life crap that was worse than an m rated game when i was even 11.

There's children getting molested at a young age, does that mean we're suppose to remove ratings for porn?
Come on, just because some deal with heavy things at a young age, that doesn't mean we should expose ALL to violence etc

By age 11 most can tell the difference between a game and real life. Besides...in many many other countries sexuality is not something they look down on.
Watching porn and being molested are very different. At school, especially in public schools much worse happens.

Even so, the brain is FAR from being fully developed at the age of 11. You shouldn't encourage children at that age to watch hyper violence.
There's loads of people who would disagree with you that porn and being used/molested is very different. I'm a teacher for children between the ages of 7 to 12, I'm very well aware of what children experince on an daily basis, in sweden at least. But that doesn't change my stance on that you should expose the young mind more than you have to.

I grew up on hyper violence, and I'm pretty normal. In fact, I'm not aggressive in the slightest. Ratings should exist, but parents should make the choice. If they think their kid's mature enough to handle it, so let it be. Didn't do my dad any harm.[QUOTE="kaealy"]
