There is no information on whether there will actually be a GOTY edition and it is hard to see how there could be one when you consider the game is already on 2 discs. The GOTY eidtion would have to come on 4 discs if they include the DLC, now obviously this isn't a problem for the PC but it is going to be a nightmare on the Xbox 360. So I am not convinced there will be a GOTY edition.

Even if there is a GOTY edition it isn't likely to come out till all the DLC has been done. It is rumoured we will get 2 more DLC episodes this coming year. So a GOTY edition isn't likely to surface any time soon (if ever).

So I would get Mass Effect 2 now, it isn't going to get any cheaper and you could be waiting a long time for a GOTY edition.

Yep.

Part of the DLC can be downloaded freely. Of the paid DLC, Stolen Memories and Lair of the Shadow Broker are great, while Operation Overlord sucks imo. The first two are available for 1360 BioWare points iirc, which translates into something like 10€.

If you just want the vanilla version go ahead and buy it, the DLC are nothing worth fainting about.

Have you played the first one? If not, get ME1 first. You don't start Lord of the Rings at Two Towers, or Star Wars at Empire Strikes Back

Yeah, I've played the first one but since the story in most games nowadays is divided and then sold as dlc I decided to check first.

Thanks all!

Pick it up!
I beat it twice with none of the DLC.

Today I just bought one of the DLC's to to try out. I have heard only one of the ME2 DLC's are really good anyways.

One of this years best games if not the best.. every pc gamer should have ME2 in there collection imo.

Think it lasted me 36 hours first time I played it?

The DLC's aren't -that- good, they really just seem random. Get it, now.

How is that even possible? lol I've had 3 playthroughs over 65 hours, the first was abit rushed, didn't bother to do all loyalty missions, the second I did all missions. the third all missions, sidemisions and DLC.

It lasted me almost 25 hours the first time I played, I finished every single mission and mined every single planet until it was either poor or empty, and I played on Veteran.

I call bs on 60.

Sure it's worth it. The DLC is'nt really crucial to the experience.

its not an online game, so youre not going to be hamstringing yourself by skipping the DLC.

Its an excellent game, and I highly recommend it to everyone, especially if you played and enjoyed the first Mass Effect.

Either way, the game is a great value. For ten bucks, your going to be getting at least 2 hours of awesome gameplay for every dollar you spend.

I have 5 completed playthroughs, of which 3 also have Stolen Memories and 1 also has Overlord and Lair of the Shadow Broker.

One of the playthroughs with Stolen Memories alone was on Hardcore difficulty.

Total Steam-recorded time:

If you call BS on 25 hours, I'll just go ahead and say you're not good at the game.

Trust me, you spent more time than it actually says you did. I'm sure you died quite a bit on veteran.

I am waiting to see her routine! A personal invite from the lady herself! She is apparently going to try the very first geriatric head-spin! Also, buy that game right away! Don't worry about the DLC stuff.

Would I recommend it? Sure, its a great game, and the save game you carry over has some impact on your career in ME2

But would I postpone getting ME2 to play ME1? Hell no.

The only background you need to get full enjoyment, and to know whats going in, in ME2 is that Shepard (your character) is a hero of epic proportion and saved the galaxy from a really big mean bad guy.

Some of the NPCs you encounter throughout ME2 will relate to experiences in ME1, but as far as that goes its not too significant.

Ah, that's good to hear. I asked for civilization V and ME2 for my birthday (it's on the 29th), so I wasn't sure if there was some sort of carry-over with the storyline from ME that would make ME2 hard to follow. I'm glad that won't be the case, I'm really looking forward to playing through ME2.

I bought the game :), and I'm glad that steam decided to give the game a discount and do an encore sale (I passed the ME2 daily deal since it was $25 for me. at the time).

It has been rumoured that the PC/360 will get the Mass Effect Genesis interactive comic shortly after the PS3 version. The comic is a sort of "condensed" overview of Mass Effect 1. It is more than likely this comic will also be a free download for existing customers. So if you have missed out on ME 1 hopefully soon there will be a way to catch up on the story along with some of the decisions.

yes of course. ME1 is still a great game and hasnt aged at all, it basically looks the same as ME2. There are some revelations in ME2 which wont make much sense or have any impact if you didnt play the first one. Also a bunch of your actions carry over with save files which is pretty interesting.
