I haven't even had it for 2 years but it seems to be having trouble running several programs at once. It's an Intel Core 2 Duo. 1.6GHz, 2GB RAM. Do I just have a virus and not know or it, or should I update soon? And to what? (I don't game on it, but I do like to run Firefox, uTorrent, WMP, and a few other programs all at once.)

For the kind of multi-tasking you do, a new quad core (Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 FTW) would be great. They cost around $250 and are absolute powerhouses for what you're talking about.

As long as your current motherboard supports it, you'll be fine.

Okay I'll try a different virus scan program, and definitely look into a quad core. Thanks

Mine is nearly 5 and a half, haha. Not really a gaming computer but I'm able to have several programs running at the same time, such as right now: photoshop, firefox, winamp, msn, thunderbird, nod32 and comodo. And most of those are resource hogs.

Back to my point, clean up your pc, check spyware, viruses, defrag, all that good stuff. There's no reason for you to encounter problems like that. since I have an old Pentium 4 2.4ghz and a whole 768 MB of RAM.:P

My amd athlone 3800+ is 2 years old and once I first bougt it it wasn't a gaming pc at all but I have replace everthing except for the mobo and the dvd rom and cd rom an dso now it is a pc gaming machine.

I plan to make it even better with a 8800gt or the 9600gt card. Also plan to add 1 more gig of ram to make it 3 gigs.

Forgot to say that my pc is running a ton of things in the background and whne ever I try to get rid of some it says it needs to shut down and so I'm unable to get rid of anything. So I can't make this thing run any smoother then what it is doing now.

Also I can't seem to beable run streaming vids on my pc like a trailer of a movie or anythingk like that cause it tells me it is loading up at 15 50 something a kb/sek and all I get is the sound but know smooth flowing pic with the sound just hestations.

You don't need to upgrade at all.

What I'm suspectign is that your PC may be bloated with malwares, spywares and perhaps even trojans. Virus, I don't know but its likely as well. What I do suggest you do is do a full re-format of your PC and keep up to date with the latest drivers for your components as well as Windows updates.

Other than that, maintain your PC from time to time. Defrag every 3 months, scan for spywares, adwares and malwares every month. Virus scans can be done every 6 months.

You've got a 2-year old computer with a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo processor? The Core 2 Duo chip isn't even that old - unless you're talking about a Core Duo laptop (and that's not a Core 2 Duo), you've got your dates exaggerated.

this is a bit like the situation im in with my PC, unless your running the new firefox 3 beta im assuming that firefox is leaking tones of memory and like you said you do like to use it so its likely caching alot. Firefox uses up-to 500mb on my machine that's how bad it is, so just check how much its using and if its alot then download the new firefox as that cuts the memory leakage by more than half.

"old" is in the eye of the beholder. A pc of high crysis standard would probibly last me 5 years considering theres pleanty of old games left to try.
