I have a Pentium 4 HT (3Ghz) and I also have a Radeon x1950Pro (overclocked) with 2 Gb of RAM and 1 Gb of Vista Readyboost RAM....

Is my processor slowing my graphics capability down. I think this is called bottlenecking or something like that.

Also, a friend told me that if I pressed alt+tab+delete and then stopped explorer.exe and then manually started my game that it would run smoother because when the game runs, explorer is still running taking some of your resources that coulb be better used by the game's processes. Is this true? although after the game I would have no explorer to navigate through my computer unless I ran the programs manually. Please answer and thanx in adnvanced..

It depends on what games you play. For example BF2 is not a very prossesor demanding game but if your aiming at playing newer titles like SupCommander Bioshock etc then if might be a problem. I would suggest you to wait until about late fall if your thinking about a upgrade.

I've never heard of anyone shutting down explorer.exe, as normally it doesn't use much proccessor time at all.

But if you do want to do that, to reopen it, go Ctrl-Alt-Delete, then to File/Run, then type in explorer.exe, and ok. That'll restart explorer, and you'll be back to normal, although maybe witha few less notification icons :P.

They'll come back next restart.

Your friend is giving you bad advice. As for processes you can use Manage Computer > Services to determine which are automatic, manual or disabled if you have too many runnings. How many is too many depends on what you are running and your needs. For gaming I like keep my processes around the 20 or lower mark. As for your CPU, you need actually tell us which CPU you have. Your description is way too vague.

The CPU is fine for awile!! Most games dont even use dual cores yet let alone QUAD! Dont upgrade your cpu till it becomes absolutly nessasary!! Cause you wont notice performance diffs in pretty much all games out ATM

The single core is bottleneck to most of games today. Example, 3200+8800gts is equivalent to E6400+8600gst, with 3dmark06 score is 5900. However, you can tap full power of gfx by increase resolution but no reduce framerate if bottleneck occur.

not really! He will only get maybe a 5-10 fps increase and its not worth it till dual core becomes a need
