Because if I can upgrade my rig it would be the GPU because there is not enough money for the CPU.

Is it overclocked? I used to have a q6600 at 3.6ghz. Should be able to overclock to 3.2-3.4ghz pretty easily. I think it would be fine for skyrim if you overclock it.

Not it's not. So it's preferable to buy a good heat sink to overclock the CPU right?

Yeah. Get a good cooler and get it up to around 3.0Ghz. Then you'll be set for a while with a GPU upgrade.

Should be fine, but an overclock wouldn't hurt.

Since Fallout 3 was able (still is) to use 4 cores, there's no doubt that Skyrim will, too, so you probably won't even need to overclock it. Just make sure you have enough RAM and a proper gfx card.
