is seagate a good brand name are they trustworty reliable, good customer support? i have heard of them but never bothered

im thinking about buying one of their hard drives bu im a WS person what do you think

i thinking about buying this hard drive

the reason im getting this and not western digital is cuz its got good reviews and no DOA's this will be by first build so i want everything to go smooth

good brand yes they are. Western Digital is just as good. No HDD will not have DOAs, its hard to make a line of products and not have a bad egg out of the bunch.

Their ES versions of their barracuda drives are supposedly more reliable, and less prone to failure.

In my opinion Seagate quality has gone downhill in the last couple of years. I've had to replace an unbelievable amount of Seagate drives, one recently was only a few months old. I personally stand by Hitachi deskstars.

Seagate owns WD btw.

Anyway, Seagate has been known to be very very good. I remember my Pentium 75 machine had a 1gb seagate, it worked for6 years without a problem =O (at which time i threw it out). According to recent reviews, Seagates are rather slower than WD/Hitachi/Samsung, but they are quieter than the WDs. Hitachis and Samsungs are quiet AND fast, but they cost more (atleast here in canada they do).
