For the past few months my C (capacity of 32.5 GB)has always been running out of space, I've deleted all unnecessary files, games, applications, music etc.. it cleared a substantial amount of space (around 10 or so GB) with only the Program Files and Windows remaining and yet I noticed that C kept filling up itself for some reason even though I haven't been installing anything there. I didn't mind it at first but now the remaining space is around 50mb. I can barely watch videos or install anything. Yes I've tried clearing the caches of my web browsers but it does not seem to clear a substantial amount. Any ideas what could be eating up the space? I think its a virus but my antivirus didn't detect anything (I use avira btw I don't buy antiviruses though I may if thats what it takes).

Check your settings for virtual drive space, and how much space you allocate for Temporary Intenet Files.

Also check how much you allocate for the Recycle Bin and System Restore.

You also have an option to delete old Restore Points to free up more space.

There's plety of software that will fill your drive with useless junk in a matter of hours. ZoneAlarm for instance can easily write 2 gigs an hour unless you disable it's debug level which is on by default. Running out of space doesn't really indicate a bad drive either .. The only way you can be absolutely sure that it's working is to do a sector scan. HDD manufacturers usually provide a special HDD app that you run on a usb key or cd-rom and it'll check your drive. It can take hours though so do it when you go to bed.

Defrag your drive using this, or get Spinrite 6.0 and check out your drive for errors. Also, scan your computer for crap using this program.

temp files, system restore files etc. they get created over time and you can delete them if everything is working fine. to clear restore points computer>system protection configure >delete all but latest restore point.
