Do you think spore is a disappointment? I do

It took too long to be released, and we created a huge expectation, that we now believe it´s disappointing.
But it´s a great game, not a fantastic one, but it´s worth
From the review, I gathered that the individual aspects of the game were too simplistic on their own, but as a whole, it makes for a decent package. The customization tools are great and are what pull you into the game.
Of course, I've only played the Creature Creator, not the actual game, but that is the impression I get from the Gamespot review.
Unfortunately, that doesn't sound compelling enough for me to buy the game. While customization is great, I'm looking at the overall package, and it doesn't seem like the gameplay is solid enough for me. Great for casual players I suppose, but just not my cup of tea. If I get it, it will be later when it goes down in price.

That's not really the game's fault.
I think it's not a disappoitment, but not what people want it to be either. It was targeted for wide audience (hense so many genres mixed together), but at the end to keep the game accessible all parts were oversimplified. Only people who would appreciate the game are children. The game reminds me Viva Peniata, with all the cheesy interactions and simplistic "creators". No real depth to the game.
Will was citing all these cl@ssic games that inspired him, maybe after trying Spore you would go back to those games to get some much needed depth.

In what way? Let me know what parts of your gameplay experience made you shy away from it.
I haven't got it yet but I don't think it's gonna disappoint me.thusaha
Of course you don't - that's when disappointment comes, when you have high expectations.
A Disappointment indeed... however not a major one. I got the game yesterday, for all you name callers it came out in AUS yesterday, and I played it for about 10 hours strait. In my opinion, the game is to shallow. Yes, I said shallow. I was expecting a deep and anything is possible type game play. Instead, I think I spent more time designing my spore, buildings, and vehicles, then I did in actual game play. The only real fun stages of the spores life are the first-two and the last. The last is only fun if you like space sim games, like MOO2, yet for kids. The middle few stages play like a very cheaply made command and conquer game, with no true elements of challenging strategy. The game did give me a few laughs and I still want to play around with it a little more in hopes that something interesting will come out of it.
To wrap it all up. Spore was a great idea, however, the game is to short, to easy, repetitive and to shallow. The game is fun for the non-average to average gamer, but only good for a few days of play for the die hard gamers.
I give the game a 10* for trying a new idea
but I would only give it a 6* for game play.
I think the game creators forgot about actual gamers and focused on the soccer mom's, little girls, and post-toddlers.
There....I said it.
I imagine the thought process behind a "casual" gamer is like this
"oooh, pretty colors and nice shapes...reminds me of an iPod." *buys game*
"Oh, this is pretty easy to get into...oh, and it has violence, but theyre not humans. This would be good for little Timmy" *plays for 30 minutes*
"Ooooh look at the cute little tank!"
Now, I imagine the process behind the genuine gamer would be like this:
"OOoooh, Will Wright. He makes awesome games, most of the time. This game was also hyped!" *buys game*
"hmm, well...this is kinda neat." *plays for four hours*
"OK, is this it? Is this all the game has?"
But, like most people passing judgement, I havent played the full game yet so maybe when it comes to 30 dollars I will give it a chance.
I havent played the game yet so I'm basing this on reviews, vids and what I've seen and heard...
I think the point to a large extent is they did not 'forget' the gamers, they didnt make the game to appeal to gamers. By gamers I mean people who play for a challenge and who tend to focus on beating the game / achiving the score and figuring out how to solve the problems presented by the game.
It's more of a sandbox or toybox if you will. It seems very casual in nature but with a ton of fun details and amusing aspects. It seems to me that it's not civilization on steroids but rather the sims on steroids. If you enjoy the playing around with your sim, tweaking out heir house, toying with their careers and following them as they establish a family and have kids, spore is seem likely to appeal to you.
Not at all, unless you were expecting the second coming of Christ to be Spore....
Really, people just overhyped it to unachievable standards and were "disappointed" by a "great" game since it wasn't a "perfect" game. Just enjoy it.

Nothing. Kinda what I thought.
picked it up yesterday. Played about 2 hours. Loving it so far tbh. Great fun. Not as deep as i'd like, very casual if im honest. That isn't a bad thing though. Its fun, i like to have fun so its all good. Will just get better as more people play too.
I recommend it to anyone, just don't expect a deep RTS or anything.
People overhyped it waaaaaaaay to much, some even calling it a life simulation, but even though I still haven't played it I think it will be good.Mochycpeople overhype alot of games, imo one of the only games i have played that was hyped that lived up to the name was mgs4, imo, but most games i have played that have been severely hyped, did not live up to expectation.d
Nope, I got the game a couple of days ago in aus and I'm hooked, and if you think its easy try playing on hard, its more of an open ended creative game anyway.
Once again its a case of people not liking a game simply because it LOOKS kiddie, which is stupid.
Besides half of you haven't even played it yet.
It lives up to the hype for me.
Once again, if you haven't played it yet how can you say anything?foolyfoo
seems to be alot of that going on..its not as easy as ppl are assuming..
I heard some things about the game, but I didn't really know how exactly it was meant to be played. This game was recieving a lot of attention from here and beyond; some people thought it would be revolutionary. Now it's pretty unexpected, even for me (I haven't been watching the game very closely), to find that it only got a score of 88% on metacritic from only, what, four or five reviews?

I pretty much agree with this statement, I've been following Spore for around 4 years and to be honest it didn't really deliver at all. To me the only true interesting aspects to the game was the creativeness, no real intended gameplay, pretty much like a simplistic photoshop on legs. The only phase that I truely enjoyed for some reason was the Cell stage and some parts of the Space stage, however except for the Space stage (which drags on way too long unless you just hop to the center of the galaxy) all the other phases seemed to be way too simplistic, short and repetative. It was more like a string of childish mini-games with a creator in between than any type of real game. Spore was supposed to have something new to do pretty much every time without it being repetative, but the only things that are new are the creatures, and not even those are new being as the Grox will always be there. When I watched the initial video in where Will Wright was demonstrating this new game it looked very interesting, but they've taken all the interesting bits away. I mean Jesus, there's no sea stage, you can't venture into water in creature stage and you certainly can't build under water anymore. The most fun you can have from this game is designing your creature and it's buildings and vechiles. But why pay £30 or 30$ or whatever when you can put some more towards it and just buy some simplistic animation/designer software?
Spore was definitely over-hyped and because of that it has disappointed a lot of people, I agree. They released too much info on the game way too early and then some of the content that was going to be in the game was cut before it was released (such as the underwater stage between the cell and creature stage). I own the game and play it on a regular basis. I never expected a storyline. The Sims doesnt have a story line cause you pretty much make your own story and I think that's how it is with Spore.
I like Spore and it's only going to get better as the expansions come out putting the previously cut content back in the game. I'm glad I got the game and I am really excited about the expansions (rumored btw to put the underwater stage back in and to allow underwater tribes and civilizations). I'm not too thrilled that EA decided to milk this game for all they could by cutting content to release in expansions later, but thats life.
anyone please help me.........
when i playing SPORE, after 2-3 minutes the screen is freeze.
and it's say "the driver display stopped responding"
my notebook spec is :
intel GMA x3100
945 chipset family
celeron 2.13 ghz
512 ram ddr
256 graphic
please anyone help me..... i can't play this game well.....

It's a decent framework that might potentially be a great game in a few years after some expansions are released. Kind of reminds of me the sims in that respect.
