As in where you can't see anything in the dark? I don't like those types of games....FEAR was dark but atleast you could see stuff. Seeing videos and screens seems like that, espeacially in the night outside.

Asking if STALKER is like Doom 3 is like asking if Far Cry is like like HL2.  The answer is no.

No it's much brighter than Doom 3.

Want proof? People are asking for mods to make night time darker! Wouldn't see that on a Doom 3 forum :D

It's good fun so give it a go :)

Dungeons are really dark, but that's a good thing in my opinion. It's not like Doom though.

I think that's a valid comparison.

Ya...and you can have a flash light on AND have your guns out.  So it's not like doom where you have to decide if you want light...or if you want protection.

I still cannot believe ID made such an idiotic design descision on that aspect...

There's a flashlight, without the cheap quality batteries that run dry in 10 seconds. Same with nightvision so you can always have them turned on. It's not really that dark in the game, it's perfect.

Switching between your flashlight and weapon was a good attempt at being scary.   I would have to say, it worked fairly well at first....it made things much more scary.  The big design flaw with Doom 3 was being WAY too repetitive/predictable within an hour of the game.    Although IMO the first hour of the game was 10X scarier than FEAR, which wasn't scary at all :)

Yeah, I second that. At some point you are thinking stuff like this:

*Moving around*

"Ok... 10 seconds have passed since the last monster, time to get ready... Ah, there's the next dark corner, now it's time to pull out the gun".

After you shoot the monster:

*Moving around again*

"10 seconds have passed again. (Sarcasm) ooooohh, a vent.... I wonder what's inside..." *Equips gun*

In FEAR I was quite surprised that I didn't find anything in vents most of the time. You could almost call that revolutionary... For a FPS.

It was way too contrived.  It ruined the immersion for me.

Oh.  Sorry!  I thought you were just being pissy because the OP didn't know that STALKER is quite a bit different from Doom 3.  NEVER MIND!

Stalker is less frightening than Doom 3. There are some creepy moments like a dark underground lab. However go in there knowing you're going to shoot anyone or anything that gets in your way. Also you can quicksave so you're good to go. Don't be afraid of the unknown. If a monster pops out of you, you figure out a way to kill him before he kills you. Like lobbing a grenade if you can't get close. Watch your back as well. ;)

Did you read his post? Or did you just not understand him, because your answer makes no sense in response to his question.

Seems like half of you missed his question all together. He simply wants to know if Stalker is a dark game like Doom 3. As in the lighting, not how scare or anything else. I would love to answer your question TC, but I have yet to play Stalker. I will be waiting awhile before I buy the game because of all the problems I have been reading about with the game. I will wait on a patch.

if there are doom3 fans here, too bad. it was a mediocre game with fancy eye candy.

Stick to Stalker, its better, it doesn't need too much undeserved hype to be a good game.

I think that STALKER is moslty like a Boiling Point or Deus Ex..., but not so dark like a Doom3. STALKER have some RPG elements and it's not only a shooter. And it's better than Doom3. 8)

STALKER is nothing like Doom 3 in the sense that it's actually a good game.  Actually, STALKER is a great game and well worth the $40 price tag.  I started the game over yesterday and it's a blast.  Such a fresh and new FPS experience, unlike Doom 3 was when it was released.

Yet most (not all, as some of you have actually understood what was asked and answered it) of you people STILL continue to miss the point of the TC question. Once again I REALLY wish I had the game so I could answer the TC question seeing most of you have totally missed it.

Speaking about that, where can I find mods to make STALKER's night time darker? The night time in STALKER as it is is just like daytime (static lightning here). I have to watch the in-game clock to know that, in fact, it's night time.

And no, STALKER isn't like DOOM 3, DOOM 3 is much darker than STALKER. Unlike DOOM 3, raising the brightness of your monitor would help you seeing in the dark in STALKER. Plus, STALKER is a much better game.

Lots of lighting. Dungeons could maybe scare you if one of the invisible enemies jumped at you.

The environment sounds like Oblivion's (as in it's open-ended with dungeons everywhere). Can your character advance (since some of you say it has a RPG element) in lvls, skills etc?

The only similarity between the two is that there are some parts of STALKER where you spend a lot of time walking around in the dark looking for a code or whatever to open a door.  STLAKER's maps and nav things can be confusing and frustration at times like Doom 3.

Other then that STALKER is really good.  And Doom 3 is one of the all time worst games IMO.
