People around this site specifically claim that its a great RTSor whatever. I found it in the bargain bin for around 8 bucks but it looks really outdated, so is it still playable even if I picked it uptoday?

yes. Quite a few people still play it, although I believe a lot more people play the brood war expansion now.

That's the thing about Blizzard games. They don't shut down. You can even play D1 still.

Yes, it's still avery playable game. Even if you can't find anyone to play online, the single player campaign for the original and the expansion are great. And I would definitely pick it up with SC2 on the horizon, or you may wind up in the dark as to the events taking place in the game if it continues down the same story line (and it better). And to Unstoppable_1, totally agree with the sig, hope we get to see a third Deus Ex more along the lines of the original. Invisible War wasn't bad, but it wasn't Deus Ex.

Yes SC is still quite playable. The controls are a little clunky compared to more modern RTS games and the graphics are obviously dated, but other than that Starcraft is just as good as it's ever been. There's still a healthy population of people that play it online too, although there ware WAY more S.Korean players than anyone else since SC is like an Olympic sport over there.

Definitely still playable. I'm in the US and play (brood war) occasionally; so do many of my old high school friends. There are a lot of really skillful people on bnet at this point - sadly, I'm not one of them. I guess we'll see what starcraft 2 brings?

I tried going back to it. The graphics are still very stylish even if they aren't technically up there. The hard part for me was as someone else mentioned, is the 'clunkiness'. The interface and pathfinding of modern RTS games have been improved quite a bit since SC.

Can't find anyone to play Online? I guarentee this RTS still has more online players than any other RTS out there save for Warcraft 3.
