To your question, yes. I have about 20-30 games on it and it's nice not to have to keep up with install CD's. Blizzard actually lets you manage a few online now so you can download anywhere and install.

I personally buy hard copies if they're available because if theres a problem with the CD key or you forget a password for a game it can be a hassle to go through all the steam support since they're no help what so ever.

I like buying old cheap stuff on it, particularly weekend deals which constitute almost all of my purchases on there. I have a lot of $4.99 and $9.99 Steam purchases. On the rare occasion I actually buy something recently released, I like to buy it at the store and get the full package. In fact, I've never paid the full original price for anything on Steam (though I almost have with some games that are only digitally distributed anyway). That's just my personal preference, to get the manual and everything. I don't like paying the same price and getting less.

One particularly stupid thing is that the Empire: Total War Special Forces Edition costs $20 more just for the few extra in-game units even though one obviously does not get whatever else is in the special edition retail package. That's pretty filthy, but pricing on Steam is ultimately up to the publishers, not Valve.

Absolutely. With weekend deals, painless backups, and automatic updates, there's little to dislike about Steam. I think I own about 75 games on it now.

Steam will stay forever. It's a good place for keeping games in order. Only thing is unlike boxed retail, it's hard to play and sell. My concern is, what will happen to my games if in say 10 years something happens and Steam closes.

A great service. One which I'm more grateful for now, after my experience with Itunes with their 1 download only policy on movies, tv series and such. Yes my fault for not reading the fine print; but it just seemed like a given to me. I did however get to re-download and back up purchases after contacting them so its all good in the end, but still a policy which I hope will get ironed out when more compeition comes.

k0r3aN_pR1d3

Well said. That along with the horrible customer service if this happens and they eff around with it is the worst thing that could happen with your steam account. It's the reason I don't use the service to buy all my games. I'll use it if the games on sale, if it's a steam only game, or if I impulsively want it right away. It sucks putting all your eggs in one basket with such a bad customer service, and such a limiting user agreement. Steam needs to fix this to truly come out on top as the best and most user-satisfying distro option. I bet it's losing alot of potential customers physical stores and site's that ship the packaged game.

I have had no problem with it. But I don't like having the games I bought tied to an account that valve has the power to take away any time. Since it's been fair to me so far, it won't stop me from buying valve games, but games that I can run without steam, I will, even pay more to do so.

as far as download services go, it is pretty d@mn good. The games are CHEAP AS HELL, compared to retail, there are deals EVERY WEEKEND, and its a great Community tool too. But lots of others have a point; if something should happen to your account, you might risk losing potentially hundreds of $ worth of games. I only really buy from Steam when its a Valve game, one I want to be able to play from anywhere in the world (you can download them onto any computer in the world, so long as the account is only being used from a single location at any given time), or a game I want to pre-order. Its WORTH the download, believe me.

steam is great

the only problem i have with it is that it sometimes causes me to impulse buy during a lot of the *blank*% off deals. i have quite a lot of uninstalled games in my steam games list comprised of stuff i bought on impulse and then deleted after a few days

oh, and surprisingly another small problem is BECAUSE of all the sales. i'm afraid of buying anything on steam at full price lest there be some half off deal cropping up in a few days. honestly, i have NEVER bought anything for full price on steam, cause i just wait for the things i want to go on sale. the only thing i have that was full price was gmod, and that was gifted to me :|

Only thing good about Steam is being able to download games. But there's other services that let you do so without all of the attached programs and other baggage, so no Steam isn't good.

I'm new/inexperienced when it comes to digital distribution, but I'm loving Steam. I've bought 21 games on it so far (counting individual games within package deals). The only thing that worries me--and it is rather concerning--is the uncertainty I have about what would happen to my access to my games if something happened to Valve, to Steam, or to my account. If anyone has any information or statements from Valve on what would happen in those cases, I would appreciate knowing what they have to say.

Do you guy like steam. I just got the orange box and steam keeped crashing every time i tried to run it, but i found out it was becsaue it was being blocked by my firewall. Now that it is fixed, steam seems cool. Do you use it or am I better off buying a hard copy?

Steam? Of course imo every pc game release should be on steam, I'm running out of room to place the numerous cd cases I got for games.

Ditto. Even if I had a current gen console (and I did have a Wii up until recently), I'd still have my last gen games out, and they take up quite a bit of space. While at first I didn't like not having a disc and case/box for PC games, I got used to it, and I love the advantages that Steam--and digital distribution in general--afford.
