Minus select games made by various developers(Blizzard and EA included), yes. But the games get added months after their retail releases. You can usually find the big names on Steam within a month of their release on other services.
In many ways yes, but it's not the only service of it's kind. There is also Direct Downloader, Impulse, and a couple other major services. While I do like Steam very much, for the next to PC games I plan on getting, Section 8 and Modern Warfare 2, I'm getting the retail boxed versions.
I think a good majority of PC Gamers have Steam.Deadly_FatalisCan't play the games in Orange Box without it.
I use Steam when I need to... to play Valve games or get super-discounted games or compilations not available elsewhere. I find the prices on Steam abit ridiculous for the most part...Im not going to pay the same price or more for a digital subscription.
Much prefer a physical copy of games.
The only reason I use Steam is to play Left 4 Dead, Steam basically is a rip-off from Microsoft's Games for Windows Live. They totally ripped Live's achievement system. True Steam may have more features like talking to friends out of game and you can buy online but Steam is much more of a resource hog than GFWLand you have to be online to activate your games on Steam. I think once Live 4.0 is released their will be a few changes to the PC gaming world and hopefully it will be for the better. I'm sick of Steam users cussing GFWL service too and I'm ready for the hate mail to roll in from the fanboys!
GFWL isn't that bad, but the difference is that Steam has Valve backing it up, games like CS and TF2 are what keep people using it and Valve actively supports it. Microsoft on the other hand just sorta threw it out there, to them it's just an extention of other Live services and it doesn't get much attention from them. The only reason I use Steam is to play Left 4 Dead, Steam basically is a rip-off from Microsoft's Games for Windows Live. I agree, but they don't even try. The library of games is simply pathetic, and if MS themselves aren't putting out games for it why would anyone else? If they showed some support for it, even something like Halo3+Gears2+Fable2 at Win7 release, companies like EA or Activision might actually start to give a damn. Games like BF and CoD is what it needs, otherwise it won't be more than a useless distraction for most PC gamers.I think microsoft can easily take this title away from steam if they tried
