I have made past past asking for huge scale RTS, and almost all replies said i was looking for Supreme Commander, Although Supreme Commander is not on steam or in any of the stores near me, but they do have supreme commander 2. Now i have heard the compliants of the game saying that its not as good as the first one. Since i have not played the first one i can't tell. But anyways, does supreme commander 2 have large scale battles or has it been toned down?

It's far worse then the original. However I believe you can get the original on Impulse.

Grab the original and the Forged Alliance expansion.

Get the original and Forged Alliance, you are better off with those.

It's significantly toned down, in almost every respect. There must still be some way to get the original.

Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance are both far better than Supreme Commander 2 IMO.

The first Supreme Commander is awesome. Great game In put many hours into. The Second is appauling compared to the first. It's been simplified.......consolified. In my opinion.

so would it been in my best interest to hunt down a copy of supreme commander instead of getting its sequel?

Supreme Commander 2 in an average RTS. What makes it so much worse than it actually is, is that it's the sequel to Supreme Commander 1.

There should be a gold edition with the expansion around that you could pick up cheap.

It's more basic. Had a lan weekend not long ago, where we played a skirmish against the AI in number 1, then number 2. Number 1 (Forged Alliance), we got nearly owned by the AI but finally succeeded with great tension (1 hour, 40 mins later). Then we played number 2, managed to nuke the AI in 10 minutes.

When you finally manage to build an experimental in number 1, there feels to be a better sense of accomplishment. If your lucky you could afford to build 1x experimental. Number 2, you just churn them out really quick.

2 is fun for a quick game without much thinking, number 1 is better for the brain and your satisfaction once you win.

I like supreme commander 2 better. It's more streamlined and there's much less convoluted crap to get in the way of making a huge army and battling it out. A lot of people prefer things messier and more complex, but I'm not one of them. I don't play real time strategy to brush up on my accounting or economics skills, and I hate having to micromanage hundreds of units individually. I don't understand how people think that's fun.

Short answer: No, SupCom 2 is not as good as SupCom. Longer Answer: No, Supreme Commander 2 had a terrible economy system that rendered "Power" absolutely useless, and had that weird Tech-Tree which had it's own resource. Which was an interesting concept but ended up being completely useless. It is waaay too easy just to churn out enough resources to research absolutely everything in the first few minutes of a match. The only thing it has going for it are the graphics, which are preeettttyyy.

I disagree completely. Tech upgrades are often the difference between defeat and victory, and if you can research all of them within the first few minutes then you're either using a trainer or have research turned off. And if your opponent is letting you just sit there for 15 or 20 minutes to just harvest research points for upgrades, then they're a bad opponent.
