I realize that the DX10 capabilities are crap, but will this be a good DX9 card for a WinXP PC?

It's got good midrange DX9 performance. Performance is similar to a 7900GS in most cases.

Yeah its a pretty decent performer in Dx 9,close to a X1950GT/7900GS in most cases,in games like oblivion the 8600GT comes close to the 7950GT,thus killing the X1950Pro/GT and 7900GS with ease.
